Default Om-28v oh my!

Out of town visiting family, and popped into Oklahoma Vintage Guitars outside of Oklahoma City. Had a chance to play a D28 Marquis that was incredible. Spent some time talking to the manager and told him I was looking for a small body rosewood, and he walks over and opens a Martin box.

It was a brand new, never been played OM-28V.

Oh

My

Word!

Guys, I know why so many are chomping at the bit to see an OM-28 Authentic. This thing was incredible. How do you get that much sound out of such a small body?!!

Super rich and warm bass. Nice clear ringing trebles. Nice mids too, though not as pronounced as a mahogany OM I'd say.

Just an incredible guitar. Wish I had the scratch to pick that one up! It was really hard to walk out of there without it!

Good news: the new version OM-28 is every bit as great sounding as the OM-28v you played, and you won't have to deal with that pointy mod-v neck anymore!

Have to agree. Stumbled across mine a couple of years ago when I was looking for either a 000 12 fret or 00 12 fret. Thought I would buy the om28v and then sell it when the right 12 fret came along. Now its hard to imagine what would come along to take its place.

Played a friend's 0M-28V for years... superb guitar! I couldn't ever marry up with the big V-neck, but I enjoyed the guitar.

I've gushed about the OM-28V in way too many other threads, so I'll just say...
+1.

Outstanding guitar.

I think I first posted here I wanted one in 2008 and pulled the trigger on mine in 2013. Awesome guitar that does everything well including pretending its a dreadnought fairly well. To me it epitomizes the rosewood Martin sound. I only regret it took me almost a year to use D'Addario EJ17 pb bluegrass strings to being out its best for me.

Are you sure it wasn't "used for 1/2 hour"? Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I love mine and the V neck makes all others feel, to me... inadequate. I don't want anything different, and that's an all time first for me.

Some would argue the opposite. I know Diane Ponzio has certainly said at one point that the shape of the neck has an impact on tone. Others say that because of the different necks on the HD-28V and D-21 that this is what causes the difference in tone between the two models. Going by that, the new OM-28 might not have as much bass as the OM-28V.

Ah, bitten by the OM28V bug....and for good reason; the OM28V is IMHO at the top of the list of the best Martin guitars made.
