Default Recommend tape

What are some good recommendations for a tape that will be used tape cables from pu's to the outside of guitar. I may or may not install endpin jacks, but in the mean time I'm curious what might be good tape. Right now I'm using 3m blue painters 2080el tape.
Thanks Gary

You're looking for something that is sticky, but won't leave a residue and won't pull off the guitar's finish? I'd try a piece of gaffers tape in an inconspicuous area first, but that would be my first choice.

The masking tape (the blue 3m stuff you mention) should not mar the finish but is hardly strong enough (it tears much too easily) to depend on to hold the weight of a cord. But if you reinforce it with an overlay of gaffer's tape, duct tape or the fiber-reinforced tape it should be secure enough and the stronger adhesive of the reinforced tapes not endanger the finish. Or, just route the cord to a guitar strap pin or the strap itself.

I wouldn't use gaffer's tape, it is a whole lot stickier than masking tape and might cause an issue with the finish. If you use 2 inch painter's or masking tape it should give you plenty of surface area to hold the cable without putting the finish at risk.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm using it to hold the cable to relieve tension/hanging weight before it goes through strap. Will be temporary as needed. The Blue painters seems fine, it is 1", I may go to wider if needed and longer along length.

You might try a slightly different route with double-sided “nano tape”.
https://www.amazon.com/Nano-Double-S...e-Multipurpose

I got a roll of this for a project last week and was amazed at how sticky it is. But I believe the stickiness comes from the physical properties of the material, rather than from a chemical adhesive. So there is no residue whatsoever. (I think this technology was based on microscopic studies of gecko feet!)

You could use the nano tape to secure the cables to the guitar, and then lay a strip of painters tape of the same width to further secure the cables to the nano tape, and to prevent the nano tape from sticking to anything else.

Just an idea.

Slightly different angle - secure only where necessary with Blu-Tac (or local equivalent). No residue, more secure, easier to fit anyway.

Blu-Tac is relatively solid after a while unless you live in Death Valley.
