adding a mixer in front of a acoustic amp
I have a Genz Benz Compac 300 head with two inputs. If I want to add more inputs can I run a mixer in front of it and just use it as the PA amp? Issues? will quality be there? Thanks.
Steve

Steve;
I believe that you CAN use a mixer to increase your input total. That's what I have considered doing with my AER, using my Bose T1 as a "front end". My plan would be to use the Bose "line level output" into whichever channel of the AER has the most headroom (I think it's channel 1)... Critical to set the gain correctly on the channel input, to avoid over-loading that input and causing distortion... (Google: Gain Staging and be sure you know how...) You also want to make sure that you use a line-level output from the mixer, NOT A SIGNAL THAT HAS POWER FOR A SPEAKER! Sending an amplified signal into the input would surely blow the thing... Thus far, I have only used the AER in a more relaxed setting, where I could unplug the 6 string and plug in the 12 string, make EQ adjustments and then play... If I felt the need to tighten things up for a performance, I'd use the mixer so both guitars were ready to go when I wanted them, without undue delay... Try it! Please let us know how it works out for you...

You can definitely use a mixer to add channels to an acoustic amp. In addition to running into one of the channel inputs, you might be able to run it into an effects return or Aux input (depending on the amp).

I ran a PV 6 channel mixer into my AER Channel 1 input as a line signal in AND also tried it in the return of the effects loop. Worked fine both ways just be careful not to overload the input as everyone stated.
i would try the GB return or AUX input if it has one. That way you are not amplifying or eq'ing your signal twice. davidc |

I play mando and harmony vocals in a duo.
The woman sings and plays a martin. She uses a 2 cha crate acoustic amp.so when I play I bring my Mackie board.fx12.no issues. But I would not use a powered board. If that is what you have just use a line out or send. |
