I consider all time spent with a guitar strapped on to be useful and worthwhile.
At the same time, I consciously avoid long stretches of aimless playing or working on things I already have down pat. There have always been the biggest time-wasters for me.

I have 3 types of practice.
1. My songlist, woodshedding each day as much as I can do. 2. Creative noodling 3. Random noodling I waste tons of time on random noodling. Creative noodling is where I work on new song compositions. I have special guitars for each one! For songlist I use J45 and or Taylor 314. For creative noodling I use Larivee D40 or Martin GPC 16, they suggest new melodies For random noodling, Martin D18 and Yamaha APX600. On electrics, either I compose - Kramer SM1 or Squier Strat 2000 issue I noodle using my SY200 guitar synth, Jeff Beck Strat or Tele (for country pickiing only_) Each guitar is a unique way to waste time! |
