Default I too have a bad case of GAS

This forum should be renamed: The GAS support group.

I've been jonesing for a D-18 for the past several weeks. Its all I think about.
But my experience with GAS is that it never really goes away. Buy a guitar and within days, another object of your affections will take its place.

Are we who suffer from GAS, just afraid of guitar commitment? Or do we one day want to commit, but we just want to play the field a little longer?

The thrill of the chase is more reinforcing than the capture of the prey. We don't eat our prey; we play them, display them, brag about them, and often sell them.

Ah well.
Yes it's a disease.
But a Martin D-18 is a fine Rx!

I had a '76 D-18 that remains a good memory. Someday, I'd like another.

I MIGHT still have it now, except that I was not the original owner and didn't realize it needed a neck reset when I bought it (a very expensive proposition back then, if you were not the original owner).
It had other signs of abuse as well.

My first recording studio experience (demo) was with that D-18 with a Lawrence magnetic soundhole pickup straight into the board. Not the best way to record a D-18, but it worked and I didn't know any better (the "studio" was an old tractor shed).

Hi jrporter,

I like the 2007 roadking classic. I had a 2000 roadking classic and totally added the chrome, new pipes etc.

Enjoy

Default Same pain

I've got the same malady. I've very fortunate to have built a collection that I'm nuts about, every one, but just when I feel like it's perfect, I get a new jones. I've just bought this spectacular Sobel-style Butterfly built by the Maine luthier and musician Buck Curran that is just so unique and beautiful, and the dang thing isn't even here yet (too much nasty cold weather to trust it to Brown), and I'm poking around on Ebay with a vintage Gibson ES 330. I'm writing it off to my son wanting an archtop..but we know that's just dad talking.

Detroit, before I go: I've got this honey of a Martin D-18, a Golden Era, that I'm selling to soften the blow of that Butterfly. It's listed here on the Forum, and is a really nice one. If interested, email me at [email protected].

Most support groups work toward assisting its members in recovering from addiction not supporting its continuation.

Thats sounds great, but I'm trying to control myself. I've got some big expenses coming up. My next purchase will probably be more of an impulse purchase, like most of the guitars I buy!

Due to my zero financial resources, I've been cured of "GAS" for quite some time now, thank you...

So true, however, continual chasing without capture deadens the thrill of the chase, otherwise why chase.

I had a '73 D18 I sold many years ago. I wish I still had it, they are fine sounding instruments.

That said, I'm currently lusting after a Guild D55 (or D50), but I have too many guitars, but I just can't come to part with any of them.

if you are fortunate enough to buy a D-18GE, you might never have GAS again, though the absense of GAS forever might be an urban legend.

I'm starting to think that some of my buddies (RickS, Fitness1, Stixx, et al) have got this thing figured out...they are as much into the thrill of the chase as anyone I've met, the difference being that they buy low, with the intent to sell high when they decide that the latest acquisition isn't the "Grail"....they have made GAS into a profit center.....that's 21st century thinking.....

Yes, but how many people end up living the life of Tantalus, constantly longing for that which is always just out of reach?
