Here are some Martins from Maury's site
http://www.maurysmusic.com/martin_guitar_video_clips If you are thinking about a Martin dread, consider these http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/f...ad.php?t=80247 This has (or had, the link seems to be broken), some more Martin clips http://student.hcc.mnscu.edu/~crucials/mguitar.html And there used to be a whole bunch of clips as a sticky on the Acoustic forum at Harmony Central, but lately that link has been broken too. However there are a bunch of mp3's of forumites playing their guitars - not really A/B but you can hear some pretty nice pickin' http://acapella.harmony-central.com/...hreadid=286517 |

Dream Guitars usually has sound clips of the guitars they have for sale.
And they cover a WIDE range of makers and prices.

The problem with this approach is you hear the guitar with the limited scope of one persons mics/pre's/recording technique. Those variables may affect the presentation of a guitars natural sound in very different ways.
the techniques and variation of Recording an acoustic guitar can be comparred to that of photographing a mountain. I just see a disconnect between the two rhelms where even if the same equipment is used to record, that recorded samples are not going to tell you very much about how that instrument really sounds. I do understand it can be hard to research stuff when you can't get your hands on it, and listening to samples may help you decide or hear different things. I just would have a low value for this information when it comes time to actually decide on something. |

Ken Totushek's site has one of the best collections - but it is confined to some pretty high end guitars (recorded with some pretty high end gear). I see he has added a Vintage page...and it is fun to explore it. Ken's reviews site - click I have been recording Michael Bashkin's guitars for the past couple years for his use with potential customers. The challenge is to to develop a setup rig which is consistent, and representative recordings which are uniform. I now have the rig, but have not come up with a definitive set of examples. It is hard to explore all aspects of a guitar's capability and confine it to a few measures. I am finding some songs which assist in that, but may just end up writing a short song that covers each style. Also, as a fingerstyler, I don't do representative flat picking well. My gigging partner is a great cross-picker and I am now including his playing in the tests. I have been tempted to build a library since I own the studio, but: A - it would be on my time not the clients - I'd need to borrow the guitars B - it takes 30 minutes to 60 minutes to record a test C - it needs to be done on fresh strings & the same player(s) all the time Which ones would I record? Only the really special ones. I hear a lot that are not special...
