Question Low End Engleman

Recently I noticed that some lower end guitars have solid engleman spruce tops, such as Alvarez for example. Seeing that Taylor reserves that tone wood for their higher end models I thought it was a more expensive wood. So is the quality of the engleman on the lower end models of a lower grade?

If you go to a luthier supply site like LMI you'll find out that there is very little difference in price between Sitka and Engelmann. Engelmann is usally less than $10 more but in some cases the Sitka is slightly more.

Lower end guitars would generally not get the best 'cosmetic' tops. However, with Sitka and Engelman...IMO, theres lots of high quality tops available so I wouldn't pay a premium for AAAA or Mastergrade etc.
