Default Applause Ovation - is this any good?

I got this guitar for my 10 year old daughter. I don't know if I am allowed to discuss price but I paid what appears to be the regular retail price. They had a used one for 35 bucks less and the sales guy said there wasn't much discount for used because they hold their value pretty well. So I got the new one. Anyone know if this is a good guitar for a beginner, it is 3/4 size and it says plug-it-in on the side- I have no idea what that means.
I was looking at cheaper guitars and he said they would be fine- but to remember guitars like that are a dime-a-dozen if you want to resell.
I have two-weeks to return it if I change my mind.

Hi TD...
Should be a nice gift for a 10 year old. Plug it in probably refers to being able to plug it into a guitar amp of some sort.

That is a very good starter guitar. When I restarted my guitar playing (4 years ago at age 58) I did it with an old Ovation. They play very easy. I eventually gave the guitar to a church for their youth music program.

Your choice was much better than getting the $100.00 guitar at Wal-Mart. The Ovation can actually be played.

Thanks- I think we will stick with it. Anything to make it easier as she gets started.

What a great dad! That sounds like a wonderful guitar to learn on.

My first guitar was a nylon stringed classical with a 2" nut width. To this day I can hardly play it! And yes, I still have it... :-)

it's not bad for a starter guitar.

I had an Applause for my first guitar 25 years ago. It was a really nice starter, and best of all, they are very durable. I drug mine all over the countryside in a pickup while working summer college jobs, camping out, etc... It was indestructible.

I also still have my Applause AA24 that I bought in the late 70's when I was too poor to buy an Ovation. It was a great guitar for the time I needed it. Recently intonated with a compensated saddle still a good guitar for the money. It'll also take a beating!

(I bet Cotten is just itching to get in on this )
