Urgent poll on Martin D28 MD
I hate to do this, and I hope this doesn't upset the powers that be, but I want to get members opinions, as it seems I don't trust my decision-making as much as I used to. Anyway, I have a chance to get a new Martin D 28 MD for less than $3600 from a shop that offers a 30-day return period, free shipping, and if I return I probably wouldn't have to pay more than $30 total for my return fee and their outgoing fee because they will provide a return label and they say they have discounted shipping.
Anyway, I need to decide in a day or two. So, in my situation, what would you do: take the leap and get this new guitar for ~$3600, or wait and try to find a used one for $3000 or so? |

I have stopped being new if possible. I don't worry about dings and the sound is usually mature. However I have the advantage of living near Chicago where I can sample a variety of guitars at a place like Chicago Music Exchange.

Perhaps relax and the enjoy the holidays, put the guitar buying on hold for a bit. A break from the constant consternation might be nice.

At that price point I say go new. Finding a good deal on a used one takes risk that you don't have luxury to take. Cost of returning etc...

If you're sure that's the guitar you want I'd take the plunge in fact I did exactly that when I recently bought a new 00028 MD online. No regrets at all.

If the price is OK with you, then the 30-day thing covers you. Grab it and (carefully) find out if you love it.

I don't think you are going to fin enough difference between the MD and your HD-28, especially in playability, to justify the purchase.

I think they quit using titanium truss rods. I don't care if they are a noticeable
improvement or not, when I imagine MD Martins, I like to imagine them with all the modern stuff, carbon fiber bridge plates, $100 bridge pins and for sure a titanium truss rod... -Mike "so I voted used..." |

Ask yourself this
Does $600 really make that much of a difference form preowned to never owned? For me, it would not even be up for debate New, 100%. If it was $2,500 verses $3,600 now you have me thinking a lot harder

So, you don't think there is enough difference in the two necks, to make a difference.

Well, maybe just find out for yourself. A 30-day trial and cheap return shipping (where the vendor offers a deducted shipping label to you that covers insurance) makes things real easy.

$600 is a lot of money, to me. So that's got me thinking hard.
