Default umble words

There are few words in the English language that end in "umble" and most of them can be used to describe old people. I wonder who came up with these words?

Mumble
Bumble
Grumble
Fumble
Jumble
Rumble
Stumble
Crumble
Tumble
Humble

Hmmmm. I don’t see any reference to the elderly in any of those. Just my… humble… opinion.

My guess on it - it depends on whether you are a young person observing old folks or if you already are an "old folk".

This is a guitar forum, so you really should add Dumble.

I'm not sure what "dumble" means but it sure sounds like a word that could be used to describe whoever came up with these umble words.

From Wikipedia:

Quote:
A Dumble Overdrive Special
Dumble was a guitar amplifier manufacturer in Los Angeles, California. He died in January 2022.

In the one-person operation, Alexander "Howard" Dumble made each amp personally. Because of this, Dumble amplifiers are the most expensive boutique amplifiers on the used market,[1] and prices have risen rapidly. In 2012, Vintage Guitar magazine described the Dumble Overdrive Special as the most valuable in the product line, with used amplifiers fetching between $70,000 and $150,000.[2] Other examples have sold for more.[3]

Dumble built two or three amplifiers per year, primarily for celebrity musicians and studios. He priced them similarly to the used market to dissuade resale.[4] Dumble serviced and refurbished his original amplifiers for a fee, and many players buy used Dumble amplifiers and had Dumble refurbish them. Carlos Santana and Ben Harper, for example, both bought their first Dumble used, and had Dumble refurbish the amp for their particular playing styles.[5]
I don’t know if Mr. Dumble was humble, but I understand his amps could really rumble.

This month’s Guitar Player has an obit tribute to Mr Dumble. Appaently he passed in February. Only ever saw two of them on Joe Bonamassa’s stage.

Vintage Guitar not only has a tribute but a full-length feature on Dumble Special 16 #0001, arguably his answer to the weapons-of-mass-destruction Ampeg SVT and Marshall Major...

As I read this I recalled a connection between John Mayer and Dumble. I did not know just how deep that connection was.

BTW-saw Mayer a couple weeks ago in Vegas. His guitar work-already fantastic-has gone to a while ‘nother level since I saw him last. Fantastic show…
