Default 1 or 2 Guitars

If you had $4,000, would you buy 1 $4,000 guitar or 2 $2,000 guitars?

Or 4 $1,000 guitars?

Thank you

CA

My holy grail for acoustic guitars is a Gibson Dove. So if I had 4 grand it would be on that Dove.

Somehow I am not fond of the idea of spending up to a budget amount just to spend it.

Looking at your signature why don't you sell them all and commission a 6-string/12-string double neck with an old wood top and a fiberglass bowl?

Only you can answer what you want. If I had $4,000 to spend on a guitar I might look at a used Bourgeois OM short scale ($3k - $3,500) and use the balance on something else. But that's just me. Do what brings you JOY ! Cheers!

Default 1 or 2 Guitars

I would ask myself what my current instruments could not cover that I wanted and make a decision from there ... maybe sell a few and add the $$ to the 4K and commission a build?

Smile It depends

I think it depends on what your target guitar is. It can be either 1k, 2k, 4k or more.

Depends on your use.

If you are a singer and normally strumming the guitar as backing into a PA, then 2 by $1,000 (one to play and one as backup).

If you sit at home and play fingerstyle for an audience of one, then $4,000 on a used fingerstyle guitar that was $8,000 new.

It depends. If I were starting out at zero guitars I would definitely get 2.

Do what you want concerning your purchase, but with a collection like that, you can at least support the Forum with the purchase of a Charter Membership. With that in hand, you can post your guitars in the AGF Classifieds (where you'll have a MUCH larger market than in this thread).

I would first look at the used market. With some luck, persistence and patience you might be able to find 2 $4000 guitars, both for 4 grand, Especially if you don’t mind some cosmetic blemishes

I recently sold two fine guitars (a J-45 and a Taylor 717e Grand Pacific BE) to buy my first Collings (see sig). Absolutely no regrets. So for me the answer was buy the one expensive guitar. For you? Only you can answer that...

I have to agree with Brooklyn Bob. If I had no guitars, I would likely buy 2. But if I already had one or more, I'd spend my $4K on a single guitar.
