Default Afternoon Jam Session

Just got back inside from an afternoon jam session up here in Vermont. It was 65 and sunny out today, first decent day in over a week (those of you in New England know this...) so my friend and I went out to the grassy knoll on the west side of campus and played some serious tunes...I took my 310 out with me and my friend brought an authentic African Djembe and we made some noise. Another kid walked by and asked if he could go get his Djembe and join us, so it ended up being about a two hour long jam session with me on the 310 and 2 djembes. Some film students came by and asked if they could film us for a project too!

Great times...played on the knoll till the sun set...Pure acoustic flow.

I love spring in Vermont.

Again ryan, you'll have to excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is a Djembe?

P.S. i think the term you are looking for is "Good times.........Good times." just kiding.

And I love it in vermont in the spring/summer.

This is a djembe, but I think the authentic ones have real goat skin or something. All I know is that it sounds great with acoustic guitar. I also think it's pronounced "Jim Bee".

An aside which relates to your experience: I went to a small Christian college in the mountains of Georgia. At the beginning of my last year there, my mom said, "I don't want to push, but you are right now surrounded by the largest concentration of pretty young ladies who's beliefs agree with yours which you'll ever experience." Taking the nudge, I found the prettiest gal on campus and married her.

The connection? I also discovered that unless you spend your life in a recording studio, you will never again be surrounded by musicans with instruments at the ready as you are in college. Take advantage of it!

I've got a Remo 14" djembe that we use in church, along with Taylor and e-piano. Just enough.

For some reason, I couldn't download the picture from the above post. Could somebody explain in words what a djembe is?

Its a traditional african drum...usually a little over a foot in diameter at the head...they stand 2-3 feet tall (this varies, but most seem to be about this size) and they taper quickly from the top...like a funnel, to a diameter of maybe 6-8 inches, and that 6-8 inch tube goes to the ground and it has an open bottom. It produces a variety of sounds when you hit the head, and if you lift the bottom off the ground and let the air escape through the narrowed funnel hole type thing, it has an enormous amount of bass. It basically serves as a subwoofer.

Is this making any sense??? It kinda has the basic shape of a Mag-lite stood on its tail end...though not in those proportions...but the same sort of taper near the top, and elongated narrower bottom.
