Doc Jacobs
With Jim's blessing I'd like to show everyone who was at Monroestock this picture, of Doc Jacobs' 2003 signature on Rick's Baby Taylor. I looked down Saturday morning, saw it, and had to shoot a picture, especially given what Doc saw fit to write.

Obviously, Doc had no idea how serious his illness was at this time last year . . . at Monroestock, he said he was fighting off the flu. It would still be a couple of months before he would finally discover that he had terminal cancer.
Doc's message reflected the way he lived . . . he treasured his family, his friends, his magic, and his love for music. I don't think he ever took any of it for granted, and our friendship served as a constant reminder to me to do the same. It's so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day routines of life, without truly appreciating the things that really make life worth living. Monroestock will always hold an extra-special place in my heart, because if were not for last year's event, I might never have met Doc in person. I mentioned before this year's gathering that music is what brings us all together, but to me, these gatherings are all about spending time with old friends, and getting the oportunity to make new ones. And Rick . . . I sure hope it never happens, but if, for whatever reason in the future, there comes a time when that guitar needs a new home, please consider it already spoken for. Hopefully, though, it will always be a reminder to the Criders to enjoy music and enjoy each other . . . |
