Default Info on "v profile" neck (710 Ltd) - fast.

Hey Gang,
I need some advise from those who have played at 510 or 710 Ltd. that uses the "v profile" neck versus the regular neck and I need it fast. Playablilty, differences in feel, etc.

I had the 710 LTD (briefly) and found the neck to be comfortable. The 'v' shape is not that pronounced.

Yup. Played one briefly at TaylorStock 2 years ago.

I am these days a big fan of fatter necks. Have the V on my MC40 and 50's fat neck on my Les Paul.

The Taylor V is not as pronounced as the Martin V.

I've got one of the 710LTDs with the V-neck. As Meridian mentioned, it's not as pronounced a V as Martin or Gibson, but for me it was one of the main reasons why I bought the guitar. I love the feel, but I'm a fan of big fat necks (a la old Gibsons). Compared with the regular Taylor neck, it's definately thicker and chunkier from the headstock to the body. I think the playability is great, especially with barre chords up the neck, which I use frequently.

Also...
I believe the V necks were only on the 2002 510LTD and 710LTD, or as a custom option.

I agree with this completely. My 510-LTD is my daily player and I find it very easy to switch back and forth between it and my other Taylors.

i didn't get in this thread in time to help, but i recently bought a '02 710 ltd (via ebay sight-unseen, never having played one) and when it arrived i noticed that it was noticeably easier to play than even my first taylor, a 414ce that i bought partly based on its ease of play. i am well pleased with the 710, especially after installing a fwi saddle and bridgepins.

enjoy your new box,

ps: marklyn, does your 710 ltd sound that much different when compared to other taylor models such as the x14 series? i ask because there just doesn't seem to my ear that much difference between the 710 and the 414ce although one would think they should be about as different from one another as one could get within the taylor line.

I've noticed differences but it may be as much due to different strings and they way I play different types of guitars differently (mostly when someone let's me play their nice guitar I try to wallop it less than my own-almost always playing with just my fingers and no pick on borrowed guitars.) I guess my answer is I can't really say, since I haven't compared them in a reasonably objective way.

I feel like my 710 sounds great and plays very well! Next time I'm around a bunch of Taylors I'll try to compare more accurately.
