Smile Gold Elliott Style Capos

I've used Paige, Elliott or the newer Shubb fine tune capos for some time now. Several of my guitars have gold hardware and I kind of wish someone would build a high quality Elliott style capo with gold plating or out of brass. I've asked all Elliott, Shubb, and G7th Heritage about this and all of them said no. Elliott used to offer plating on theirs several years back. I've posted want to buy threads on several forums trying to buy one.

Maybe if 50 people on this forum read this thread and ask someone will offer this product.

There are a few bass options on the market like the John Pearse Ol' Reliable, Catzeye, and the Ultimate Capo at Elderly but I've check most of them out and they are quite big by comparison. Even the Paige is far smaller and closer to the Shubb or Elliott.

I have a brass Kat Eyz capo and I have to disagree about them being big. They are pretty thin and low profile. A quick google image search shows several pics of a Kat Eyz compared to an Elliot. The adjustment screw sticks out a little further than the other but it does not impede my playing at all.

SuperB23, if you can't find one to buy, perhaps you should consider taking an Elliott capo to a jeweler and getting it gold-plated. I'm sure it won't be cheap, but if you want it badly enough I doubt it'd be prohibitively expensive.

Just a thought.

Default gold capo

G7 makes a gold capo. It is more expensive than the others of the same design. I suspect there may be some real gold involved. Dunlop also makes one, which I do not recommend. It looks good though. Shubb makes, or has made, some out of brass as I recall.

And I agree. With EVO frets, a gold-colored capo would look better. There are more colors in guitars that look good with gold than with steel.

I guess if I pulled it apart some and removed the cork and rubber I could probably bring it some where and have it plated. I worry I'd mess up a $160 Capo though.

I purchased my Elliott's when he offered gold plating and I have gold hardware on my guitars. I just didn't want to pay the extra money and since I don't have gold fret wire, it is not like the capo looks out of place. I imagine not that many folks ordered so that is why it was dropped as an option.

Anyway, I hope that you find a solution so you get the capo that you want.

Best,
Jayne

There's a simple solution to that, and it would involve calling Mr. Elliott, explaining that you'd like to get one of his capos gold-plated, and arrange to have the various metal parts sent to you so your jeweler can gold-plate them. Then return those parts to the company for final assembly.

I don't know whether he'd agree to that, but it doesn't cost anything to ask. What's more, if anyone has a clue as to where some of the older gold-plated capos might be tucked away, I'm sure he would.

Just a thought.

Personally, I'd call a plating shop and ask them for a price - its not a complicated job, they might be able to turn it around pretty quick -
