Anybody play an Eastman E10OO
I love sound of my Eastman E10OM. I'm thinking I might like a smaller guitar. Both of these guitars have an Adirondack Spruce top and Mahogany back and sides. I would want to compare the 14 fret E10OO to the E10OM which is also 14 fret. I'm curious.
Thanks. |

Well, I played one for a few minutes at LA guitar sales, (I also tried the E10OOSS and E1000M) then my wife rang and she had locked her keys in the car.... I think I liked it...I haven't seen one since, as we have left the country and Eastmans are thin on the ground here in Australia. If anyone knows of anywhere....I'd like to give it a more thorough try out.

I have an E10 00 SS Adirondack Spruce / Mahogany which I purchased from Ted at LA Guitars about five months ago.
It's very difficult for me to hold back my enthusiasm for this guitar and my opinions of it. It is very easy to play, has great workmanship, a beautiful voice and sustain with a ton of projection that I have experienced only in guitars costing much much more. It is flat out loud. Of the four I own, it's my absolute favorite. If I had to thin the herd down to one guitar, this is the one I would keep. To use today's vernacular...it's killer!

SS are 14 fret. Only played a SS once and didn't care for the string spacing (too narrow at the saddle). Just my opinion, but i like at least 2 1/4" spacing at the saddle. Other than that, the SS is equal to the 00 in every way in tone and loudness. I've played a few E20 00/ E10 00 awhile back and i can't decide which one i like better. I'm sure an E10 00 or E10 00 SS will compliment your E10 OM very nicely.

"Every E series 00 I've seen are 12 fret."
Sagebrush Tom-- you are correct. I spoke with Dan at Eastman and he confirmed what you said. I would need to play a E10OOSS to have 14 frets. Thanks for all your voices. |

There are a few other big differences in these two models (00 vs. 00 SS) besides the 00 being a 12 fret and the 00 SS being a 14 fret. The 00 has a slotted head stock, ebony fretboard and bridge, lower body width 14 3/8", wider string spacing at the saddle and the bridge moved down to the widest part of the lower body.
The 00 SS has a peg head stock, rosewood fretboard and bridge, lower body width 14 3/4" and 2 5/32" string spacing at the saddle. Cosmetic differences are the rosette, outer body moldings and the 00 SS come in a very nice sunburst finish. So there are enough differences to make your choice so much easier. I personally prefer the 12 fret model, just haven't decided on back and side woods yet. Tom

I really want to try Eastmans Varnish finish on this model. Anyone played one yet?

The couple E10OO's were fantastic little guitars, lots of power and volume for such a small guitar, and I absolutely loved the neck profile and width.

Thanks for all your thoughts. I found a store within a reasonable driving distance that has one on order so I'll be able to play it. It will be interesting to find out how it sounds and feels different than my 10OM. Looking at the body dimensions, they aren't all that different. The lower bout of the 1000SS is 14.3/4" vs 15" for the OM, and the depth is only 1/4" smaller. The sloped shoulder and small upper bout must make for a difference in the way the air is moved in the body of the guitar. I also see that the scale length is a little shorter than the OM. I'm not planning on keeping both of them, so we'll see.

I have one and enjoy it
I had heard a lot about Eastman guitars, and about 3 years ago I found dealer who was having a big sale. I got a great price on the 12-fret E10OO, and I have really enjoyed it, learning fingerstyle blues and playing some jazz chords on it too.

I have the original release of the e10ooss that had the 20yr old Adirondack top. It feels completely different than an om. My Eastman is also deeper bodied than an OM which I think helps with the sound

Can't help you, but the only Eastman I've played that really wowed me was an E20ooss, if I had 2 grand lying around I think it would have been worth it.
