Default What hobby would you LIKE to do but don't?

It's interesting to read about what you all are into besides playing guitar. I thought it would be fun to see what sorts of hobbies you would LIKE to be into but aren't for whatever reason.

For me, I like the idea of trying to fix up an old car or truck. I think it would be really cool to work on something like old Volkswagon Beetles or MG's or something like that. I'd also LOVE to find an old Chevy K5 Blazer, older Ford Bronco, flat-fender Jeep, or something else 4x4 where the top comes off and fix it up. Time, money, and space (and knowledge) keep me from doing so, but I think it would be really cool.

How about you? Is there a hobby you would really like to explore but you haven't ever done it?

Restoring and flying WWII fighter planes.

But I can only afford to buy and build those little plastic models.

HEMA. Historic European Martial Arts. Probably rapier.

But...Knee replacement surgery just last September... Doesn't seem to be in the cards.

Only the piano. I can think of few finer pipedreams than sitting down at the Joanna and playing the opening chords to Imagine, or banging out a Scott Joplin rag!

I've owned/ridden a bunch of motorcycles over the past four decades. While there's some appeal to continuing to own/ride, it's become clear that motorcycling falls under the heading of: I'd rather want something I don't have than have something I don't want....

ballroom dancing is something i've always admired and really enjoy watching.

but i've got two of the leftest feet in the world when it comes to a dance floor, so i just observe and dream.

STrictly Ballroom is one of my fave movies to watch.

I'd like to do woodworking, carpentry, stuff of that like...but I'm too clumsy with sharp things.

Painting. I do pencil sketching and would love to try to paint but right now it is too expensive plus I wouldn't have a clue to know how to start.

Bob Ross videos. Seriously.

Try acrylics, cheaper, no nasty paint thinner. Then if you dig it (which you will) you can try oil.

I fenced competitively in my twenties (foil and sabre) and studied HEMA for several years (primarily Fiore longsword, but we touched on rapier and other "breadth" weapons). Foil would probably be harder on your knees than something like longsword, dagga (rondel dagger) or lanca (spear).

The neat thing about HEMA is that that there is a very strong scholarship aspect; in fact, there has to be since there is no "unbroken lineage" of instruction; everything is reverse engineered from ancient texts and manuals. I translated I.33 which was a latin text on sword and buckler, and there is still lots of intense scholarly debate on most topics within HEMA.

That could be an interesting way in for you while you recover. Sure, there are HEMA groups which are thinly veiled fight clubs, or "Dog Brothers with wasters," but there is also a lot of scholarship as well.

Similar boat as you OP, body work on classic cars. I had a '73 VW Beetle with a sunroof, but the sunroof drain design essentially guaranteed that there would be rust formed behind the rear windows, from the inside. I spent a few weekends here and there over a couple years working on fixing up the body on it, but it turns out to not be a good fit for me.
General maintenance, short of pulling the engine/transmission, appears to be more my forte. That Beetle may have been ugly, but it drove well
