Default Guild D140 and D150

Anyone have experience with either of these models, sound, what country made in, nut width (I'm getting conflicting reports on nut width)?

I currently own both. Mine are the GAD series that has been discontinued. Both of my GAD series have the 1.7" (1 11/16", 42.8 mm) nut. The new Westerly series with the same model numbers have the 1 3/4" nut. The GAD series is made in China and I believe the new Westerly series is also (not sure). Both of the ones I own are rich in tone and the neck profile is very comfortable to me with my small hands. Of course, sound and comfort are subjective. Hope this helps.

140 = D40 = Mahogany b/s.
150 = D50 = Rosewood b/s.

Looks for old GAD XX (with 2 digits) they are par with US made.They're so good that Guild had to drop the spec/appointment on the newer GAD and Westerly Collection so they could sell the US made models.

I ended up with the all solid wood mahogany dreadnaught and case D120 in the natural, it has the 1 3/4" nut. It was not a refurb or B model, $425 shipped, it is Chinese made which raises the question, is the Chinese operation Guild owned or does Guild contract with a guitar maker and build to the specification Guild orders

I have a second generation GAD, a Guild D-150. One of the finest sounding acoustic guitars I've ever owned. Beautiful wood, and excellent fit and finish, and I couldn't be happier.

If the Westerly Series are anywhere as good as mine, I suggest you at least give them a try.

All are, and were, made in the same Chinese factory according to my sources.

The GAD series was made at the AXL factory as a contract build. I have no idea if the Westerly series has changed their arrangement.

Default Just got a new one...

I just picked up a new D140 Westerly in sunburst. It has the 1 3/4 inch nut. Well put together, and to my ears it sounds great.

I have played a D-120 Westerly. Playability was good. Sounded great. Fit and finish were perfect.

I looked hard at the Westerly series D-140 and OM-140. Would probably have bought the latter if I did not buy the U.S. made version, an F-30.

While I have always heard GOOD things about the off shore line of Guilds, I would have to respectfully disagree with everything else above. The new Westerly line is spec down a bit to compete with Yamaha and other real low end builders, NOT to keep people from buying them over a US built version.

While the 140 GAD and the Westerly are similar in design to the USA version D40 and the 150 with the real D50, they are not equal.

I ended up sending the mahoganyD120 Guild back, it was heavy, somewhat muted and the urethane was thick, possibly that muted the guitar, I was hoping it would be like having my Guild D35 back in the seventies, it wasn't there, sent it back, it was a good move, a month later for $75 more I ended up with an Eastman E6D, absolutely no comparison, lacquer, ebony, classic tuners, a sound that rivals a Martin

Good guitars not great guitars. The Gad30R however is a fine guitar if you can find one for sale.

To my ears the St Louis Sigma guitars sound better than the Guild MIJ guitars.

I have a few Guilds, and have had a few more that have found new homes. I love the necks on the GAD D120/140/150 series. They also sound great! I wasn't impressed with the soubd of the GAD F130- for a smaller bodied guitar the Breedlove concert size guitars get my vote.
