Default string choice for a Santa Cruz OM cocobolo italian top

Hi
Looking for ideas for acoustic strings for a Santa Cruz OM with Cocobolo and Italian spruce top?

I currently use mostly Pearson phosphorbronze on most my acoustics
looking for other suggestions.

Thinking about: Elixir Nano, Martin Marquis, Martin Retro

Would love to hear your opinions

Hello Echo44.

I have a SCGC OM Coco/Sitka. I've tried the following strings so far (all light gauge):

Martin SP PB
D'Addario Nickel Bronze
John Pierce PB
SCGC Parabolic Tension Strings (low tension)

The SCGC strings are by far the best that I've tried. The tone, sustain, and playability is absolutely amazing. I don't think that I will use other strings' brand again. Give them a shot and you will see the difference.

I use them on my OM also.

I would def try the SC strings. From my experience the lo tension play slightly lighter then lights, and the mid tension play slightly lighter then normal mediums

Though I play a cocobolo German spruce Wingert, I found the mid-tension SC strings sounded great on my guitar. I have an allergic sensitivity to them so cannot continue to use them. I would recommend that you try them though.

I have been using the Throbak Vintage Phosphor Bronze Round Wounds on this guitar and I have really been enjoying both the tone and the feel. So, you might give those a try. I find that you might sacrifice a bit of volume with round wounds but for me the improved feel makes up for it.

Santa Cruz makes such fine instruments and I am sure that you will find a string set that brings out the best in yours.

Best,
Jayne

I think you'll find it harder to find a set of strings that sound bad, than it will to find strings that sound good with that guitar.
