"The History of the Eagles", part one
Anybody watch this documentary on CNN? I found it fascinating. Two and a half hours long. I was gonna watch maybe an hour of it last night (I had recorded it) and just couldn't stop, watched all of it in one sitting.
I did a search for part two on DirecTV, but didn't find anything. Does someone know when part two will air?

I don't know when part 2 will air on CNN, but I have viewed all of it some time ago, and you're right, it is both fascinating and entertaining. I attended the History of The Eagles concert and am so glad I did, to see Bernie Leadon, and especially now that Glenn Frey has passed on.

I watched both parts a couple nights ago. Excellent, in every way.
Comcast has it OnDemand but they are charging for it. I guess I really didn't know how tied in they were with Kenny Rogers and Jackson Browne then Linda Rondstadt. I love the way Joe Walsh is just Joe and the way the relationship between him and Don Felder was portrayed. In part two though, the ugly part really surfaces between Felder and Frey and Henley, despite the reunion stuff. Really good documentary, hope you catch part deuce.

Will this be rebroadcast anytime soon? Or available for purchase? I just moved from the East Coast to West Coast and everything is screwed up timewise for us right now. EX, it just isn't right watching NFL at 10 AM in the morning, doesn't matter who you are rooting for.

After seeing it on Netflix I picked it up on BluRay because I love the concert at the end. Streamed video and audio simply aren't as good as the BluRay. They actually pulled Bill Szymczyk's muli-track recording of that concert and remixed it for surround and did a brilliant job of it. BluRay takes the blankets off the tweeters right nicely.

I love the early film clips of them playing at concerts. However, to me, Henley and Frey came off as mean-spirited, self-absorborbed, ego-driven, money grubbers. It was obvious that others were interviewed and then Frey and Henley were told what they said, and then they responded to it. They watered down the fallouts between Frey and Henley as well. I've noticed since then that every time I've seen Henley interviewed, money is a topic. This runs opposite to the grain of the earthy Eagles vibe. I had read Don Felder's book and took it with a grain of salt, however, after watching this documentary and reading past statements by former Eagles and people around the scene, I now believe almost all of Felder's story.
The amazing factor of the Eagles is how many good tunes they created and the longevity of the group. Frey and Henley kept driving the Eagles machine and there is quite a bit to be admired in their achievement. I'm sure many others will disagree with me on their impression of the documentary. |

As someone who has followed the Eagles since day one I have come to the conclusion what Felder said was true. He got a settlement and it also involved a gag order so take it for it is. Henley and Frey were boneheads. Great musicians but boneheads none the less. But that's their business I still like the Eagles and always will.

I look at it this way - the Eagles would not have been what they were and become what they are without all the underlying dynamics of personalities - good, bad and ugly.
Fascinating documentary by the way - particularly the early stuff. |
