Default Money does buy happiness

They say money cannot buy happiness, but I am not so sure about that.
For those with the expensive guitars, are you happy you have them?
Did you get them for free, or did your money buy them?
If you bought them, then money did in fact buy you happiness.
From my school math days, if A=B, and B=C, then A must equal C.

I think money can indeed purchase short term happiness especially and only true if cash is paid.

I always thought the people saying money can't buy happiness are the happy people without money. You don't NEED money to be happy but it can help in many ways. Not just being materialistic but being practical:

If you have money and don't have to work overtime, so you have more time for friends, family and even hobbies.

If you have money and good healthcare it can give you more time on this planet we are gifted with.

If you have money, you don't have to agonize over small purchases and can just go on with life.

If you have money, you can get your car fixed and not stress over getting somewhere the next day.

Etcetera.

very true

A friend of mine is a firm believer that money cannot buy happiness.
This same person, and his wife, make real good money, go on expensive
vacations, and recently bought a brand-new $600,000 home.
He tells me he is very happy with the vacations and the new house.
again, if a=b, and b=c, then a=c

Money provides security, and security leads to lower stress levels. Not all, but many problems with which we deal can be resolved if we have the money to address them. Money is certainly helpful in our world, but the pursuit of financial riches to the exclusion of interpersonal relationships or of accepted ethical standards can cause trouble.

I don't know if Money can buy happiness, but it can show what's possible in 7/4 time.

Money won't make you happy, but it sure helps you avoid financial related misery. The avoidance of misery is great, but it is not happiness. With respect to guitars, expensive guitars are wonderful instruments, but they do not make the music any sweeter. Happiness is contentment with what you have.

Love and Peace!

I think money can add to happiness, but only if one is fundamentally happy/content in the first place. Where having money can go awry and undermine one's happiness is when the expectations of the have-nots, whether family, friends or anyone else wanting something for nothing causes grief.

I would give up a lot for a properly-functioning auto-immune system.

That said, I am comfortable in my discomfort...and I am grateful for this. Not to mention that so many people have things much worse than me.

If your focus is only on the material as a measure for happiness, well, I guess that's one way to exist in this world...

There are many teachings about "true" happiness in all the great religions of the world. I have found them to be quite accurate and helpful.

I have not found thinking and deductive logic like that in the OP, to be helpful. Sounds good, but fails in real life. "Happiness" is different from "gratification" or "pleasure", which are, IMO, better descriptions of the good feeling that derives from nice objects, like an expensive guitar.

The thread seems more like a rationalization of material pursuit then an exploration of the roots of happiness.

No, that is not my focus.
I merely use that as an example to try to prove my point.
My true happiness does not rely on material items.
There are certainly different forms of happiness,
happy that one has all that they need, happy that
they are healthy, happy that they have people that love them, etc.
I guess my original point was that money can buy a certain form of happiness.

I don't know if money can buy happiness but it can make renting it a little easier.
