Well, Acoustic magazine just reviewed one of their latest beauties here:

http://www.acousticmagazine.com/revi...alon-l1-390cb/

and the facebook page was talking about a Black Friday sale (seems I missed out on a bargain S320 too dang it!), so I am guessing that Steve, Jim and the boys are still beavering away.

Wildwood Music in OH still sells them, and according to the shop, Avalon has a webpage and a presence on Facebook.

They are...and they are doing some amazing innovative things! Here's a clip of Al Petteway playing mine

Call Bill at The Fretted Buffalo. He's the newest Avalon dealer in the US and is very friendly and knowledgeable. He's also a forum member.

Good luck,

Yes, of course they are! Here's an Indonesian Rosewood custom they're just wrapping up for us (we should see it within a week or two):

If you have any questions, give me a shout—they make some killer instruments.

A quick Google search shows they have a pretty nice web site. That's where I would start. Avalon.

Yes, Avalon is building wonderful instruments! ...I've owned two Lowdens & one Avalon cedar/eir. Of the three, although all very lovely, I preferred the Avalon neck profile and a bit more fundamental tone. I sold one of the Lowdens to pay for my Custom Goodall. The other Lowden, sitka/eir, was my long-time workhorse and one of my sons loved it, so I re-fretted it & gave it to him recently. My other son loved the Avalon, cedar/eir, so I gave it to him a couple Christmas's ago...all in the family ...and I'm holdin' on for dear life to the Goodall! LOL

Best wishes in your search, they are superb guitars & great folks to deal with!

I share your confusion. I know that some were made in the Furch factory. Perhaps there were some made in Asia also. Pricing is all over the map. It is almost as confusing as Breedlove.

I was on the Avalon website last night and none of the models shown list what the neck or bridge spacing standard specs are or how wide you can go. I thought that was kind of weird especilly considering this is a pretty high end (pricey) company. On any guitar I'm looking for, that's the first priority for me, then wood composition is next. For them to omit that seems bizarre.

Hi Joel,

Avalon had the silver (Asian) and gold series (some made by Furch some in Ireland) about 10 years ago. I think this kind of convoluted things much like Breedlove. Of course they recently changed their model numbers...so that confuses things a bit. However, nowadays they are all handbuilt in the old Lowden facility in Ireland. I'm here to tell you the quality of the new models is outstanding. As good as any Lowden I've owned!! They are really building quite a name for themselves in Europe. I'm selling an Avalon L25C (L1-20C) now to finance a recent purchase (big surprise) and it's a superb Fingerstyle instrument. They are a heck of a bang for the buck and there are some US dealers Shoreline and The Fretted Buffalo who could answer more questions.

Hi Jeff. Thanks for clearing it up. I keep eyeing your ad, tempting. The Webber could use an across the pond cousin.

Thought of you this week. I had dinner at Rocky's Hot chicken shack.

Fusion,

Standard nut width on most Avalon guitars is 44mm, or roughly 1.75" (1.73-something to be precise). I agree that such basic specs should be easlily found on the Avalon website. You do indeed find this info when you hit the "select" button on the Arc and the Ard Ri models on the site.

By the way, when you select one of those two models, and then "custom options", you find a number of neck options available, including a wider or a narrower width nut and extended fingerboards.

Avalon is truly a "boutique" shop, building a relatively small number of world class guitars each year, completely by hand. Call me at the number below anytime for more info on Avalon, and thanks for your interest!

That's my point though they don't mention on the site if they will do a 2" neck width or 2 3/8" bridge spacing. These are simple questions you'd think as boutique builders they'd mention. That's all I'm saying.
