Default Kijiji Scam?

I'm trying to sell one of my guitars on Kijiji (which is similar to Craigslist) and only hours after I placed the ad I got an response that struck me as quite sketchy.

First the buyer asked what my final price was, then we I said my price is firm this is what they replied:

That sounds good, I live in Los Angeles,CA i wouldn't be able to come view the guitar but will like to go ahead with the purchase. I will issue a payment for the guitar via a check and the shippment will be handle by the shipping agent who will pick up the item from your address.

I don't want to waste no time because of other interested buyers. Will be waiting to hear back from you shortly.

This seems more that a little suspicious to me. What is someone from LA doing looking at Kijiji ads from Montreal, Canada?

Any of you ever received anything similar when selling on Craigslist or Ebay Classified?

Run away.

Apart from anything else, he can't spell, punctuate, or construct a sentence. Would you really want to sell your guitar to him?

It's definitely sketchy. Tell them cash or cashiers check with 2 weeks wait for clearing time.

And they should study some grammar and punctuation.

There are some folks - including one dealer I know - who scour the out-of-town classifieds in search of bargains/trading stock, so I wouldn't necessarily make a blanket judgement; nevertheless, this guy sounds very suspicious - and there have been posts about like someone like him before, supposedly operating out of the SoCal area - so IMO I wouldn't even give him the courtesy of a reply...

I got the same kind of response on a Craigslist ad I placed for some furniture I am selling. She used the same words "shipping agent" to me also.

It was definitely a scam.

Default Scam!

First rule, if they call it " the item" run!

Second if they want to send their shipper, again, run!

Often they'll offer to include extra money for your trouble. Ha!

Lots of scams out there, be Carefull

Over the past 1 1/2 years I've sold maybe a dozen high end pieces of furniture on Craigslist. I've probably gotten 2 dozen of those "offers", all worded basically the same, usually offering $50 over my "final price" for my inconvenience.
