Default Monel observation

Digging the tone of the Martin Monels but I may have an issue.
I think their 'soft feel' might not be working for me. I was trying to demonstrate tremolo picking to a singer and I couldn't get it going well. It may have just been my nervous system at the time, but had no problem with another guitar strung with Elixir HD lights at a later time. The Elixir have medium gauge B & E strings. I'd like to stick with lights on this guitar but the Monels aren't "fighting me back" enough. What do you think about this situation?

I think you seemed to have answered your own question.

Paul,
It may seem to be so, but maybe because I have a tendacy to be verbose.
I wonder about a string with light gauge tension yet a stiffer feel on the thinner strings. Not totally sold on the Elixirs

the (top) e + b are not 'Monels' they're plain steel possibly with a tin coating.
They're not Retro or Vintage or have any of that marketing mojo - their modern strings made recently so in reality your only getting 4/6th of the sound your buying.
The not 'fighting me back' is a lack of 'tension' - wrong or different gauge to what your used to.

You could try the Juber sets. They are basically a "true medium" and have E and B gauges comparable to a full medium set.

Westman is correct--the E and B strings aren't monels. Which strings are you having trouble with?

I use the Tony Rice set on my short scale Larrivee. In my ten years of owning it, I have finally found the optimum strings for that guitar.

an oddity about the Monel lights is the b string is .15 ....almost all other light light sets (including Martin brand) are .16 gauge.

Agreed. These are my favorite strings, for the moment anyway
