Default fishman presys blend - separate outputs wiring

hi folks,

i have a fishman presys blend that i picked up cheap from ebay. the UST and the mic are processed in the preamp and come out one mono signal. i would like to try and split it and send it out to something like the k&k dual channel preamp. mic signal on the tip, UST on the ring, or vice versa. i was just going to cut the piezo line before the preamp and wire it direct to the output jack, and turn the blend knob on the preamp to full mic. will this work, and if so anybody familiar with the output wiring at the jack on these fishman units?

the cable from preamp to output jack is three wires, red white and black. any ideas what these wires correspond to? the presys blend output jack has 2 connectors plus sleeve. interestingly the stand (non-blend) presys has 3 connectors plus sleeve!

cheers,

gary.

Hi Gary, what are the colors for the cables on the jack terminals? (Red+?)

black is on the sleeve, so white and red attached to the 2 other points.

So from looking at other fishman preamps instructions, it seems like the red is signal (tip), white is connected to switch terminal (some preamps have black)

I am no technician guy and I am not really into irreversible mods. However, I still hope that, or at least try to help

hi lawliet thanks. if red is the +ve signal to the tip and black is the ground to the sleeve, not sure what the white is?

fishman uses their proprietary Switchjack which has a 4th terminal = switch terminal.
It connects to the -ve battery wire. When plugged the terminal can connect to ground thru the sleeve hence complete the circuit which switch the system on

ah that's interesting. so the white wire isn't going to the ring then.

interestingly the standard presys (non-blend) jack has three connections as you describe, with what i presume is the ring connector unused. the presys blend jack has only the two, so it looks like a normal TRS stero jack, which i presume it actually isn't.

so i could try using the jack that came with the standard presys unit, which has an unused ring connector, and connect the UST +ve to that and the UST ground to the sleeve. worth a shot.

it worked! ha! mic output from the presys blend preamp on the tip, UST on the ring.

i am getting a very slight hum on the UST output. it goes away when i touch the output jack with my hand. what could be causing that?

yes i connected the ground of the UST to the sleeve, where the presys preamp output ground is also connected.
