Default Anybody buy a guitar from Richard's in the UK?/Import to US from UK?

I'm in the market for a Furch. Had one. Miss it. Richard's has what I'm looking for. Before I type in my credit card info, I wonder if anyone has ever bought a guitar from Richard's (rguitars.co.uk). Any feedback? Good/bad? Specifically, I wonder if anyone has had a guitar imported TO the US from Richard's or anywhere else in England. Any issues with shipping, etc?
Thanks in advance!

I've not bought a guitar from Richard, but I know him well. He used to have a shop called Regent Guitars, which was my local shop for a few years.

I would have no hesitations in buying a guitar from him. Great guy and fantastic shop.

Which Furch do you have in mind?

buying from the EU a friend uses Thomann in Germany.
They stock most current Furch models and ship internationally.

If you are online between 9-5 office hours (UK time) Richard is usually online to chat to.

A friend of mine purchased his Faith guitar from Richard he also includes a full set up as part of the cost (it is a proper set up too).

Richard also runs a guitar forum he's a genuine guy, I would buy with confidence

Fair enough, competitive pricing, but I must advise that Thomann is (in my experience and opinion) a box-shifting warehouse type operation.

I would suggest that when buying a particular guitar, that you deal with a specialist retailer.

In Leamington Spa? I loved that place!

It's always seemed that way to me too, but it's hard to say. For instance, if you look on Google Maps you can go inside the store - which is huge and on multiple floors - and it looks very well kitted-out.

Perhaps it's the Ikea of the instrument world lots of models on display to view and play for yourself, but the majority of goods purchased are in the warehouse out back...

I haven't bought from him...yet. But he has helped me with a few things in the past in terms of advice and information. He seems a really decent bloke to me and I reckon that he prides himself on set-ups and pre-sale checks.

Thomann is a very different enterprise and are really a volume operation. They do not do set-ups before shipping or consult very much on your needs. That is not a criticism, just an observation - they do have a very flexible and honest returns policy and are very efficient in many ways. Their pricing tends to reflect their particular style of retail.

I would say that it is worth having a chat with Richard by phone or email to get the most out of your purchase. I think that is where he excels, as other have said.

I've had two experiences buying from Richard, one very positive, one less so. Bizarrely they were for the same item.

The first time I used him was when I bought my Acus One8. It was a very pleasant experience- he seemed to have no end of time for me and seemed genuinely concerned that I made the right decision. The amp came and I was extremely pleased with it.

So, when the school at which I worked wanted the exact same amp I ordered it from him. Again, it was the best price in the UK, and he even said he would repeat the offer of throwing in the case for free. However this time the item didm;t arrive promptly. We were told that it was sent out by courier, but it never turned up. When we tried to contact him both via email and phone he seemed very elusive. Eventually he did send another unit out but without the case, which I had to contact him again to supply.

I have to say that this last case of using his service really saddens me as he does seem a genuinely good bloke, and, when you are buying at least, always on the end of a computer to answer questions. Its just that on this occasion when things went wrong he struggled to deal with it promptly.

Some people have mention Thomman. I have used Thomman for a lot of things because of their competitive prices- but mainly hardware such as mic and speaker stands, and electronic stuff, such as microphones. Not sure I would be brave enough to purchase a guitar from them, but their service is beyond reproach, absolutely excellent.

Another UK company that stocks Furch is Intersound in Dursely. Now this truly is a great shop with terrific service.

Good luck,

Robbie

I have visited this shop while in the UK last year, played some very nice Furch's...I did not buy a guitars there but indeed a super shop north of London.

I did buy one at the North American Guitar in London...they had a great selection and very good pricing. Super nice folks! Surprisingly an number of American made guitars. Nice atmosphere and very knowledgeable.

I had a very good experience using http://stageshop.hu in Budapest .. and the delivery to the UK was perfect . Their staff are knowledgeable , helpful , responsive etc and have a long personal association with Furch . Their tech / repair guy is excellent and very communicative ... his name is Zoltan .
I bought an OM35SR - in late April and have been playing it daily since . Its a beautiful guitar by any standard anywhere and for us here in the UK the value is unbeatable ...
I dont find it too dark or whatever ... its loud , and really nicely balanced ... sounds fabulous .

Isnt the duty payable on import to the US a bit of a killer though ... ?

Apologies for reviving an old thread, but Ive had a slightly odd experience with R. Guitars in the last couple of days. I was all set to buy an Eastman from him (Im in the UK), but couldnt get a straight answer as to when I might expect delivery. Instead he went on (via his online text service) about needing to join the queue for a set up, even though Id rather do my own! Looking at his You tube videos, he does seem to have an attitude that he knows best. However well intentioned, not all potential customers are 15 years old and in need of guidance. After two days of asking, Ive bought elsewhere.

Recently bought two from him. First class. Guitar checked for issues and a pro setup.

If you want to buy a Furch guitar from England I would recommend Project Music.

Richard seems like a great guy and his customers are generally happy. I have never purchased from him but would if the conditions were right.

Sometimes people can have expectations problems as well. If you have a problem that guy will not leave you high and dry. Give him a chance and he's gonna sort you out.
