Default Looking for another guitar...

(because you can never have too many ).

Am looking for suggestions and recommendations…

While most of our sets are in standard tuning, our band would like to add a few songs in DADGAD, Double Drop D or other such tunings and it occurred to me that it might be helpful for both rehearsal and performances to have one (or two) guitars designated and set up for that purpose.

My main acoustic guitar is my Taylor 414ce (Sitka Spruce top/Indian Rosewood back and sides) and if I'm going to add a guitar to the sound palette I'd like to be able to something that contrasts well.

Parameters...
Brand? Don't matter
Shape? Don't matter
Budget? Less is better. Love to be in the $300-$500 range (Yeah, I know)
Asthetics? Ugly has mojo!

What say you?

3-500 range the Recording king 10 series has my vote in whichever flavor you want. All solid woods Sitka over hog for around 350-400 is tough to beat.

+1 on this. RK 10 series - great bang for the buck.

+1 +1 The Recording King 10's are very nice.

If you can find an Epiphone AJ500M, also a great guitar value

Out of good conscience I should add if you enjoy the Taylor neck you may not like rk. They have a medium c profile that most find cumbersome but I happen to love. Nowhere near as thick as some make it out but still a departure from the scrawny pencil Taylor calls a neck. Play them before you buy. You could also look into the 6 series and probably score two for the 500 total

Yesterday I didn't get the chance to say thanks to everyone…

grim:
that's useful. My hands are smaller and I'm one of those who finds the neck on my Taylor just about right. I've been curious about RK but based on your comments I will be sure to play before I would try to order one on-line.

ps, roy and grim (see above) and yes, the RK's I listened to on youtube do sound nice.

I also very much like the Epi and am going to keep my eyes open for one of those.

I'm backing this statement. RK makes great guitars in that price range.

Not a problem. Play a few it may surprise you, I'm not a large guy nor do I have large hands and I find the larger necks exceedingly comfortable as do many others

Guild D125 maybe? All solid mahogany and just about 25-50 bucks above your budget.

All hog, satin finish would be my suggestion. Body size up to you. Martin has the D-15 and the 000-15, both have that great mellow sound. (That I'm gassing for, lol)

I haven't played as many guitars as some here, but in that price range I haven't heard anything better than the Seagull S6. I had a coworker I helped not long ago. Went to GC four times. Her budget was $500. Played Yamaha, Epiphone Dove Pro, and maybe 7 or 8 others. Liked the sound of the Seagull best. Jmo
