Default What is your favorite album for acoustic guitar tone?

Not necessarily your favorite album musically or performance-wise but something that makes you say, "Wow, I REALLY love that acoustic guitar tone!"

For me, that first Milk Carton Kids album (Prologue) is probably at the top right now.

Probably Norman Blake's "Whiskey Before Breakfast". Close would be Dan Crary's "Guitar" album.

I have to go with a tie. Franco Morone's "Melodies of Memories" album, on which (I believe) he's playing a Ryan, and Gillian Welch's "Revival", on which David Rawlings is playing his trusty Epiphone. In both cases, tone I'd commit a minor felony to have!

Agree. Rice was a minimalist when it came to recording (or performing for that matter), and used the same mics for much of his work. Therefore, what you hear is about as close to having him play in your living room as possible. His guitar(s)' tone and impeccable style are non plus ultra.

I'll also give a tip-o'-the-hat to Charlie Sawtelle's playing on any of his old Martins. Great innovative player, gone way to soon.

Oracle by Michael Hedges. Very natural sounding. Ed Gerhard's There and Gone is also great. Paul Galbraith's Bach Sonatas and Partitas is also a tone fest.

Lately I've been listening to Robert Bowlin's CD, Six String Soliloquy. Great stuff. It's definitely been one of my favorites for awhile.

"Skaggs and Rice" is one of my favorites.

Also "Tone Poems" (Tony Rice/Dave Grisman collaboration).

So many choices, but (from something recent) I love the acoustic tone on Jason Isbell's 'Southeastern'.
