Default Austin City Limits

Anyone watch this anymore? I remember "back in the day" when ACL was almost always good music. Now it comes on at 5AM on Sunday morning in my area. Right about the time I'm getting up. And I always check it to see who's on. And 9 out 10 times it's not music that I can stomach.
Admittedly I'm very guitar oriented. So if it's not guitar music I'm generally not interested. I know the purpose of the show is to showcase mostly unknown or up & coming artists. But I have a hard time understanding how a lot of these people ever got out of the garage. Perhaps I'm just an old curmudgeon.

I no longer watch either. The style and type of music they play in there is not for me. Oh, once in a while an act will come on that I like but that is the rare exception.

I use to watch it often in these parts. I thought they had removed it from our local cable network as there has been many changes recently. Maybe it is coming on early as you state. With that being said, I use to really enjoy seeing most of the performers, but then it seemed there were many I did not recognize and they were not "my" preference, so I'd move on to another channel.

The show is a representation of the Austin music scene, which has changed over the years. Some of it appeals to me, some doesn't.

I don't watch it like I used too. I do watch Bluegrass Underground when I can though. That's always good. Of course I miss Hee Haw so I may not be the best judge

My analysis, and a thanks to those who realize and accept many things change with time. Very often an institution must change and cater to a different group to survive.

One beautiful part of our Internet world is the way you can still find the recordings of or current versions of something that may suit my fancy but not the current masses.

I never watch it anymore. The "music" just doesn't interest me.

Haven't seen it in a long while. It used to be that I never saw anyone I didn't like. That slowly evolved into not seeing anyone I do like. So ACL is over for me.

Hmmm... where's the thread in the General section referring to the fact there is good new music out there. You just have to find it and listen.

ACL is the same quality of artists as always.

I've watched some parts of recent episodes. I think some change in ACL is due to the huge influx of music from the SXSW scene.

One of my favorite listening pleasures is a band from Austin by way of Idaho.

All three local PBS stations here carry it, usually late at night on a weekend. I still enjoy most of the artists, though others who appear aren’t my cup of tea, more like chai soy latte. But I have yet to hear any incompetent musicianship on the show, just styles of which I’m not fond.

I also don't watch it like I used to. I probably don't find a show I really enjoy more than once or twice a year. I remember when they really had some classics... like a fantastic performance by Stevie Ray Vaughan. Those were the days!
