Default Mods... where did my thread on the universe go?

Just curious as to why it has been deleted. PM me an answer and delete this inquiry please. I thought it revealed how many highly intelligent people are among our ranks!!!

It wasn't deleted . Nor was it sucked into a singularity. No; it was (in fact)
relocated as part of the Infinite Improbability Thread Redistribution Program ,
which , unfortunately , is exactly what happened to the memo this forum was
supposed to get prior to Redistribution. A very improbable coincidence, that last bit.

It is explicitly against the rules to discuss religion. However, something that seems to be more of an unwritten rule is discussing science that some consider in opposition to religion. I have seen a few threads discussing as such where a few people complained in the thread that they weren't allowed to discuss the religious alternative. And I have seen even more of those threads get locked or disappear.

Not being a mod, I have no idea whether some religious folk reported your thread or not. But I can't think of a more likely cause.

It's also against the rules to publicly discuss/question Mod decisions, etc.

3-2-1....

Pretty sure it was a victim of spontaneous combustion, which begs the question - can humans catch fire without an external source of ignition? Discuss.

Found it to be one of the most stimulating threads in a while. I hope you find it.

But, to be fair, questioning where a thread went shouldn't be out of bounds. I'm on other boards whose moderation make this place look like 4chan (ironically, an astronomy site), but they always pm you for post/thread locks or deletion.

Yup...we can't let science get too popular with the common folk

I'm not stating my stance on it, just commenting some take exception when others can discuss something contrary to their beliefs while they cannot discuss their own.

It was, for the most part, a pretty civil, fairly enlightening thread.

I suspect it had run its course and was to the point where the same stuff was starting to get regurgitated with the likelihood of it only going downhill, in the mods estimation.

But thanks for the thread and thanks to the mods for letting it run so long.

I would request that perhaps it be reposted, but locked, as there was some useful and entertaining material linked and/or referenced in the thread.

Mods? Is that a possibility?

It went away.

That's the gist of it...and despite what folks here may think, all kinds of forum rules were bent and/or broken...and yes, *some* good conversation was generated, and we have the Mods to *thank* for that; that is, for their leniency...along with the appropriate forum-members/contributors to that thread.

I think that's a reasonable and fair question.

I'm guessing that the Mods would *prefer* that the request be made along private/PM channels.

isn't there a limit to the number of posts per thread? I think 300 posts and then the thread closes. I think that is what happened with the Universe thread.

Maybe it was taking too much bandwidth on the server? Or, and I hadn't read the thread in a day or so, maybe at the end it did really cross the lines and break the rules? It was certainly bending them!
