Along with my own personal experience, the majority of "LOVE IT!" comments I have heard regarding tuning machines would be for Gotoh tuners...

I had a better grade of tuners, then I went to Waverly tuners.

I don't know if I have had a better grade of tuners THAN the Waverly tuners, but I am also very happy with the Grover StaTite 18:1 tuners I use on one of my D-28 guitars.

Grover sta tites work just as well for a lot less. I would give that a better grade

If your looking for something more expensive try some alessi tuners, there are a few others that are pricier than waverlies. I can't think of the names for them atm

Not sure what you are going for here but I prefer Schaller tuners myself.

I have the Gotoh 510s on my two custom built guitars and really like them.
I have also played guitars with Schallers and Grovers and I would say that I prefer the Gotohs. As with many things related to guitars, different strokes for different folks - for some it is an important choice and for others not so much.

Best,
Jayne

In my experience, you can do better than Waverly's.

Why would it matter? In my opinion, they would have to tune themselves to be a real improvement. I believe that many times, when guitars go out of tune,it has nothing to do with the tuners and everything to do with the effects of changing temp and humidity on wood.

it has nothing to do with going out of tune, it has to do with going in tune, getting there is the hard part.

Drop the kids off and they will be fine.

The difference In tuners is NOT how well they stay In tune, it's the action (that's what I call it, not sure if that's the correct term) of the tuners. How smooth or stiff they are, and for me smoother is not always better. It's easier to fine tune if the tuners have a tiny bit of stiffness to them. That's my problem with Rotomatics and the rotocopies. They're TOO smooth and I end up passing up where I want to go to easily.

So for me it's somewhere In between too stiff and too smooth. I like waverlies and grover sta tites pretty equally in that regard. Grover's are cheaper so I choose them. But for a d41, waverlies would be more appropriate.

I've never tried the tuners that are more expensive than waverlies, such as Rodgers and alessi, and I never will. There's no point in spending that much on tuners IMO

Yes, any of the models can be ordered with rollers for steel string.

Exquisite machines.
