The best way to reduce the twang of the B&e strings.
I've changed string brand and size and don't seem to be able to get rid of the twang sound of the B & e strings. Tried different picks as well.
Any suggestions or is it just these darn hearing aids again? I hate um. djh |

How well can you hear without the hearing aids? I got hearing aids a couple of years ago for better conversation, but have no problem playing guitar w/out them. I hate playing guitar with hearing aids in -- understand the twang you're talking about.

There are times that bothers me a bit as well when strumming one of my guitars.
Seems to be more apparent when seated and with a music stand right in front of my guitar with the sound reflecting back into my face. What strings are you using - light? Perhaps try light wound and medium b and e. Also, maybe try altering the angle of attack on the strings when using a thinner pic if strumming -.68 and thinner. I've rebeveled a few of my favorite pics with an emery board to my liking. Last edited by Montesdad; 07-02-2014 at 07:00 AM. |

My hearing lose is in the high end so I will admit if I play without the aids I don't hear any high sounds but without them the volume of the guitar is very low. I can play using an amp but when I do I have to have the volume too high. What strings are you using - light? Perhaps try light wound and medium b and e. This is the strings I have on the guitar now. The guitar sounds better with the aids in except for that twang. People take care of your hearing. djh |

If your aids are programmable, and you have more than one program available, you could have one channel reprogrammed with the high end dialed back a bit.

Thicker picks with a softer material. Try a d'andrea pro Plec

SOP for any of the normal and normal-short (24.75"-25") scale guitars I've owned over the years.

Could the twang you hear possibly be slightly too low action on those strings and you're actually hearing a touch of buzz?
That can come off like "twang." Just a thought. A |

My Martin does not have this high pitch sound on those 2 strings. Only the Yamaha. |

Problem Solved:
I changed the saddle. High pitch twang sound of the B & e strings went away. I'm still going to take the advise ZMF gave and have the 2nd channel of my hearing aids programmed with the highs turn down. This is one time even I can tell how much difference a different saddle can make. I'm a happy camper now. Happy 4th to everyone. Appreciate all we have in this country. Freedom. |

Can I ask what you changed from and to. My new guitar has a TUSQ saddle and I am starting to wonder if this may be what i am hearing in mine.

Not sure what the difference is in the two saddle materials as they look the same except the colors are a little different. One is supposed to be a plain bone saddle and the other vintage bone saddle. All I know is that there is a large difference in the sound of the guitar using the two different saddles. Both are set-up the very same as far as string to fret height. Last edited by djh1765; 07-04-2014 at 07:54 PM. |

I actually googled B&E strings to see where I could buy them.
Then it came to me... Oh gosh.
