The Knopfler technique of playing with alternating thumb and only two fingers is very appealing to me due to its simplicity. Correct me if I am wrong but in the videos I have watched of him playing (mostly electric) he uses the same technique for both electric and acoustic. But he admits in the video that he "broke the rules" in terms of not using a pick and just using two fingers with his fingerpicking technique. I am still doing a lot of learning (songs and technique) with strumming and the pick is still an important tool for me but Knopfler's technique is sure tempting to "ditch the pick".

His humbleness and modesty in light of the practice and dedication he applied to becoming the musician and composer he is recognized as is inspiring to me. In many of his interviews, he applauds even those of us who are doing the most simplistic things on our guitars.

What a gentleman. It's interesting that both he and Tommy Emmanuel had such a strong relationship with Chet Atkins. Has anyone ever seen a video of the two of them playing together? That would be interesting and cool to me!

Long Jon, I am like Bitraker here. I can get a link posted, but for the life of me haven't been able to figure out how to store a video on my computer or to a post here, with or without photobucket. Please cast your pearls of wisdom upon my sea of ignorance on this topic.

Thanks

John

No criticism toward your post intended. I really need someone to help me figure this out. I have lost hours trying to make it happen over the past year and am no closer.

I'd rather hear Knopfler's cheating by 3-finger picking on the high or low sides than the boring traditional style any day of the week........his sound has always been my favorite.

What I meant was were there any performances with Knopfler, TE, and Chet Atkins all together.
