Default Thoughts on Sheppard guitars?

Hello,

For those of you who own or have played a Sheppard, what are your thoughts?

Thanks.

Well wouldn't you know….I just played one today, Batur.

It was the most beautiful, artistic guitar, and I sat in front as Glennwillow played it, and it was so pure and rich. Glenn made it sound like angels!

The level of details were so thoughtfully designed by the one who commissioned it, and Gerald did a masterful build.

I am so glad Anita and I went for a drive with the top down to go visit Glenn and Dotti! They are the finest people you could meet, and oh…the guitars playing was not so bad either.

I've played a couple of Gerald's guitars and they were breathtaking! Precision craftsmanship… sounded like a million bucks. I don't own one and would defer to those who do, but I think Gerald builds exceedingly fine guitars… and is a nice guy to boot.

Photomat, I've also had the great pleasure of spending time with Glenn and Dot… wonderful folks. I know you had a good time.

Hi bho...

At the 2005 Headsburg Guitar Festival I played two extroidinary guitars - a Somogyi OM (German Spruce over Brazilian Rosewood) and a small body Sheppard (German Spruce over Brazilian Rosewood). These were very close to each other in responsiveness, and tone and quality.

Were I to commission another guitar, Gerald would be in my top three choices as a builder.

His guitars (and I have played them at two subsequent Healdsburg Guitar Festivals), have been at least as good as the first I played, if not improved over his 2005 guitar that left such a strong positive impression.

Not only are the fit-n-finish flawless, his ability to shape tone is superior.

They just 'sing'.

Truly wonderful guitars. Years ago, I commissioned a deep bodied GC ziricote/engelmann with some really cool abalone on it. I've sold lots of guitars as my tastes have changed and I no longer like abalone but this Sheppard is a definite keeper. It just plain sings even with old strings. Gerald knows his stuff.

I have played many of Gerald's guitars and they are first rate in every respect. Gerald is also a wonderful guitar player himself and brings his knowledge as a player into his guitar making. If I had the financial means, a Sheppard would be in my future!

Gerald is a stellar human being to boot - great to work with.

Best,
Jayne
