Default DIY Humidifier Question

Hello Everyone,

I was so intrigued by the DIY humidifier designs that were posted that I am definitely going to make some soon.

It seems that all of these designs work best if your case is laying flat. Does anyone have issues with the DIY humidifiers if you store your cases vertically?

Thanks again
Addison

Default DIY Humidifier

I've used the sponge in a soap dish method for decades and never had problem regardless of how the case is stored.

I Velcro the soap dish into the case, usually on the wall of the accessory compartment, just under the head of the guitar.

Just wring the sponge out so it doesn't drip.

Velcroing sounds like great advice, but I don't even bother with that. Too lazy. I just cram the soap box/spongy bag wherever there is a bit of space, and that's it. Never had any issues. The one thing I watch for is I make sure the sponge isn't squeezed by any part of the guitar.

Are you talking sponge-based or gel bead-based? I'd go with the beads. It's more about how you attach/keep the humidifier than the design of the humidifier itself.

I hang my sponge/zip-bag between the strings, never had a problem with any guitar and they're always stored upright.

Wouldn't it be wiser to just spend the $20 and get a professionally engineered and built unit with a design track record?

Default DIY Humidifier Question

I wrote the recent post about DIY gel bead humidifiers. I store my cases both horizontally and vertically, and have no problem with either. As long as you include a but of sponge in your design you shouldn't get any leakage if you move your case from one direction to the other.

Not really. There is far less that can go wrong the various popular DIY models than any of those commercially available.

Why spend good money on something you can build cheaper and more reliably yourself?
