Default Recommend a bluegrass band in Asheville

Hi, this is my first post here, it's a great forum! I have mostly played electric all my life, but I'm expanding my acoustic and fingerpicking play lately, so I've been lurking here recently.

Anyway, I'm planning a trip to Asheville, NC in the next month or two, a weekend getaway, and I'd love to catch some good live bluegrass or if that's not possible, just good music. Which shouldn't be hard in Asheville! Does anybody know of any good bluegrass bands that commonly play there that I could look for? Thanks!

I haven't been to Asheville, but from what I've heard, it is impossible to go there and NOT come across a bluegrass band.

You may want to compare your schedule in Asheville to the schedule for the 2014 Swannanoa Gathering at nearby Warren Wilson College.

Depending upon the schedule (it varies by week), that is the big event for fans of Bluegrass, Celtic, Old-Time, etc., music.

See if Balsam Range is close. They are some of the best out there!

Try reaching out to these folks, they can probably assist. Maybe they will have on of their sessions while you're there.

Look up The Orange Peel. There always seems to be great bands playing there. And the comment on Balsam Range...Yes indeed, some of the best. If you get to one of their shows, stand in front of Caleb (guitar) and hang on. That guy is something else.
