I would try the Electric guitar section or the Fender Stratocaster guitar forum.Lots of knowledge there.

Yes the strat forum would be a much better place! :P but if you want to Check authenticity, I'd suggest more pictures as well.

no way tot ell from just one picture... and I think that to truly authenticate it, you'd have to take it apart, see what date is stamped on the heel of the neck, where it joins the body...
I'm no expert, though... you might try a site called The Gear Page (.net); it's primarily about electric guitars and there are some extremely knowledgeable folks on there... they can at least tell you how to go about discovering the date of it... It's certainly beat-up enough to be a '62...

Take off the neck and look for a stamped date on the end of the neck that sits in the pocket. Should have a number, then month and two digit year. Post a photo of that and then I'll tell you other things to check.
I think the pickguard should be have a greenish tint to it for '62 so I don't think it is original. |

It looks like it could be authentic, but you need to know more, including seeing pics of important aspects such as dates/serial numbers marked in particular places (butt of neck, inside of back cover behind the springs, and pots). There is a great website that can help you learn all of what you should be looking for. The link I provide is for Fenders http://home.provide.net/~cfh/fender.html. Good luck!
Btw, I owned a '58 Strat from '76 until '02 and when I decided to sell it, the referenced website was helpful for me to know what buyers would want to know and what pics to take. I was very thorough when I listed it and the prospective buyers were very impressed with my knowledge without ever questioning the guitar's authenticity.

First, it would just be a Stratocaster in 1962. They were all American.
Second, there are several things about that one photo that bother me (as to authenticity) but I'm not real Fender expert so I'll not muddy the waters with wild speculation. And I do realize that's what the internet is here for. |

...my guess would be no....at least not entirely...the fingerboard dots look too white and the hardware does not look old enough to me....

Just to compare, here's a link to my '64. See the color of the dots and the pick guard.

Don't know if it's "real" or not. But here are a couple that ARE real:

Photo's not too sharp, but are those Posi-Drive screws ?!!
The wear lo0ks a little too "relicy" to be real... (Just an opinion, whadda I know?) Authenticating Strat's and Tele's is an absolute minefield, even for the very knowledgeable, let alone us mortals. Edit: Ok, my bad, they apparently DID use Phillips style screws back then... Last edited by Long Jon; 02-17-2014 at 10:12 AM. Reason: Looked at some definite "real" 'uns. |

Very tough call from a single picture but a '62 rosewood board should have clay dots, which are more cream/tan in color than white. Given the price of a real '62 I wouldn't touch the guitar based on that one pic.
