Default new recording - Freight Train

I know this has been done to death but I still like it.

Elizabeth Cotten's Freight Train on a Gibson J-100Xtra recorded with a Zoom H2n. From an arrangement by Stefan Grossman.

I hope you like it.

Good job - steady and clean playing. I have my own arrangement on my tabs page if you are interested an alternative approach.

I guess you're being sarcastic but thanks for listening anyway.

I love it, Doug… one of my favorites. And I'm not being sarcastic at all. I remember learning of Libba Cotten when I was a very little kid… what a great story. Thanks for bringing back a true classic. And you did a very nice job of it. I like the arrangement. And I'll look forward to checking out Rick's tab too.

Thanks for including the information above. I can't speak for anyone else but to me it's always helpful to know some basics about the piece I'm hearing and what gear was used.

I enjoyed it. For those who choose to chime in with sarcasm simply because they may have heard a particular song often, I don't get it. Don't you have something better to do than disparage someone else' offering? It takes guts to simply put something out there for others to critique. Encouragement would be a much nicer and more "AGF" way to go.

Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much! Libba is great. Her left hand upside down picking style is off the map. Have you ever seen a video of it? Totally amazing what people can achieve out of necessity. I've also recorded her Shake Sugaree: http://soundcloud.com/tripleohdoug/shake-sugaree

Thank you Trevor! I'm one of those guys who loved album liner notes where they said what gear was used on what tracks, gave background on the songs, etc. You just don't see that anymore.

Thank you Mike! I've noticed that people who like to be smart tend to not have any recordings to share of their playing. It's easier to criticize.

Thumbs up Nice one.

Nice. Smooth, easy and laid back. Takes me back to my skiffle days in the 1950s! Nancy Whiskey and Chas McDevitt popularised that song and there have been many versions since. Nice one Doug!

Very Nice. You have a steady rhythm.

Kind of wish I was sitting on the back porch with some lemon aid while listening to the song. (I live in apartment)

You did a great solid job on that classic.

I always enjoy hearing many variations of the same song. To me it's part of the folk tradition.
