Looks like a 1778T Elite. I'm no fan of Ovations, but I think this is probably the best sounding model in the entire line...

I am the proud first owner of a 1976 Ovation Patriot Limited Edition guitar. Only 1776 made! It doesn't come equipped like the one pictured above, tho. Not even a pick-guard, per se. Just a ring around the sound hole that looks to be of plastic or hard rubber, with embossed ivy or oak leaves. (not sure which) Sute is a great guitar. I think it is a presentation of the Legend, which showed up that year too.

I got one exactly like, I mean exactly like that one. Unplugged kind of nice and warm, but plugged in, whoaaa, stand back people.

Dang.. you are almost as old as me.. I am the proud first owner of a 1973 Custom Balladeer.. It's neck is still one of the best I have found. Very comfortable. Tone.......... well, maybe not so much... BUT it's loud..

I had the same guitar(1778T) in black, but I had to return it as it had a short in the endpin jack. Other than that I loved that thing. It had the most pleasing sound of any Ovation I have ever played (unplugged) and rocked! plugged in. The electronics are sweet.
BTW, Steve314, I might be calling you for another one of those. After I returned it, I have missed it. That is a cool guitar. I'll have my Martin Dread (traditional) and Big Baby, and a nice companion would be the 1778T in that jet black (the antithesis of tradition).

I haven't had an ovation in decades, did not play much back then just needed a big boat paddle. The thing that keeps me from buying another one is the narrow necks. Just cant play them . Theay are cool though

i play one and love it...of course i love the slim neck and the ultra low action i can get. i also like the sweet black finish and comfortable playing position i get with the super shallow bowl strapped on. i'm never getting rid of mine!
