Default Electro Acoustic with a budget of £500 - £600 ish - please help me choose!

I am looking to buy an electro acoustic guitar with a budget of about £500-£600. I quite like the grand auditorium model or maybe something even smaller/narrower.
I have shortlisted the following and would appreciate any advice:-

Takamine EG543SC (approx £550) (recommended to me by a friend)
Yamaha APX 700II (£500)
Taylor 214CE (Secondhand/ex demo) £650 ish

Quite happy to buy secondhand, found most reviews on the Taylor although some do state that the back and sides are now laminate and so maybe not so good? Could really do with some help or maybe any other recommedations in this price range.
Many thanks.

Faith guitars are well worth a look. I'm assuming that you are in the UK.

Hi Jen06,

I'm no expert but I have previously owned a breedlove passport c250co. Cedar top with a gorgeous laminated ovangkol b/s. The cutaway was nice and the sound was great. Built in tuner. I would recommend you have a look.

If I had 5 or 600 quid to spend on a new, compact sized, electro-acoustic right now, I'd find out if the new Taylor GS Minis, with the on-board electrics, are available in this country yet. Especially the beautiful Ltd. editions.

Yes, the back n sides are laminate...... Therein lies part of it's greatness..

Very Late edit: I only just came back in here and noticed that this was your very first post !

So allow me to be the first to welcome you to the forum.

This seems to be a very quiet day... I would have expected you to have been inundated with responses to this Q by now.
Nothing this lot usually enjoy more than notionally spending someone else's money on guitars !
Anyway, watch this space... The responses WILL start, then you'll really be confused as the list of candidates grows...

Good luck in finding the right one for you.

Sadly, like most American made stuff sold here in UK, that tends to translate straight into pounds, without bothering to use the exchange rate.

I had a quick look and that model is only pennies short of £1200 here...

Check out some used Mexican built Martins as well. There should be some around your budget with a bit more character than the Taylor IMHO.

I would strongly look at a used all solid Freshman 400 series, i have an FA400FBF (discntinued) with a schertler bluestick that is just incredible. When I bought more expensive guitars i expected to off the Freshman guitars but they are going nowhere!!!

Hi Jen
I think any of the three you list would suit you depending on your own preferences for general size feel and look and of course sound and playability.

Another you could consider is the Yamaha AC1M or AC1R which I think sit in your price range. M is mahogany and R is rosewood (back and sides).

Kris

Yes, definitely check out Faith guitars, they are some of the best quality for the money available in the UK. They are very well made, QC'd and set up at Patrick Eggle's workshop in the UK.

The Neptune baby jumbo is my favourite, followed by the slightly smaller Venus.

Many thanks for all your replies, didn't expect to get so many quite so soon! Have realised now that I shouldn't rush into anything as hopefully this guitar will last me a while. Am going to take a look at your recommendations and hopefully will come to a decision soon! (However, did see a Faith Venus ex demo that does look very inviting....) Thanks again and will let you know how I get on.

Sorry about that. I did a quick google exchange rate. Didn't know that American Martin's sold for such a premium!!!
