Where to find parts for a Fender Jazz bass ?
My brother in law has a Jazz bass he bought in the mid 80s. While on loan to some one, who brake a string and changed it, they lost a bushing that helps hold the tuning machine in place. The problem is, it's not nickle plated or gold plated, or chrome, but black. He called Fender and they suggested some other shop. The shop didn't know what to do because Fender didn't know a part number. If you know someone who's good at tracking down this stuff, let me know ! Oh, this model came without a pick guard.

There are several potential sources - Warmoth, Allparts, StewMac, Angela Instruments, and Guitar Fetish come quickly to mind. Even if you don't know the Fender part number, if you can determine who made the tuner in the first place (if it's early/mid-80's production you're probably looking at Grover, Schaller, or Gotoh) it should be easy to obtain the part - or an entire suitable replacement tuner - either from one of the above vendors or the manufacturer...

I'll quiz my brother-in-law.
He told Fender the serial number, you'd expect they could have told him the brand and model of tuner, at least.
