Thumbs up Just Got Back from Doyle Dykes in Worcester, MA

As usual a great clinic--had some new stories since the last time I saw him. Played a DDSM he said he recently picked up used at Taylor and gave a black 614-ce ES a workout with an incredible rendition of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".

Any other Forum members there?

Doyle is just the most ridiculoous player I've ever seen. Watching him perform will either make you want to practice like Hell, or chew your own fingers off...

yeah...I saw him last year and was blown away.

I wanted to go to the workshop, but it was full by the time I knew I could go and called about it. Since I'd seen him last year, I wasn't totally bummed.

So I went to a presentation on the new Macromedia Studio MX and won a free copy! As long as they weren't raffling off guitars at the workshop, I think I did okay!!

Default Still havn't found...

Have you guys ever seen him play U2's "Still havn't found what I'm looking for"? It's completely insane.

You're right, he makes you want to either get serious or give it all up.

I saw him in Honolulu last month. He also did "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Just awesome. His harmonics playing frets was also inspiring! And bending between the nut and the tuners! And de-tuning while playing to change to a minor key! And...

Was a bit depressing, though, I could practice for a bazillion years and not come close.

Wasn't ther but I saw him last year. He is one of the most talented guitarists I have ever heard. And a nice guy to boot.

I had the pleasure of catching one of his clinics last April. A really amazing player, to see him play in person is awe inspiring. When I saw him he played "While my guitar gently weeps" and like the others have posted...wow.

I saw that he'll be in the west suburban Chicago area sometime in November... think it will be. I *will* go and hear him!

I have almost the same situation coming up. In a few weeks, Tommy Emmanuel is coming. Then about two weeks later, Doyle Dykes will be here. What a great time.... I can't wait

I'm trying to get our church to have Doyle come do a concert. That would really be sweet.

I'm seeing him in Wichita on October 8.

The host store is charging $5 to see the clinic.
Anybody ever heard of an admission fee for
a clinic? Is that "legal" for host stores to do?
To be honest, I can't blame them.

They said Doyle is "expensive." Oh well, what
a small price to see what should prove to be
a great night!

It's up to the store. Our local shop won't book Doyle for clinics anymore because they say he wants too much. (I don't fault Doyle for getting what he needs, though) Granted, it's a small shop and even charging $5 they probably wouldn't cover the cost. Sure would like to see him though.

Our local dealer "charged" a three-canned-goods donation to the local food bank, plus a couple of bucks. That wouldn't have even covered the cost of the plane fare out here.
