Cool They've arrived!!!

Well.... finally... after an awfully long wait... my 412rce-ltd and 414 have arrived.. I'm at work and opened up the packages for a quick play and to check them over to make sure everything was ok.

1st played the 412rce-ltd... loads of tone fingerstylee it is well impressive already, i can't wait until it opens up! I'll plug in the ES tonight... It's soooo easy to play - even though the neck is wider than i'm used to it's great! Looks good too - the top is 'silked' i think the term is... and looks gorgeous! the rosewood looks pretty too!

2nd.. got the 414 out - the ovangkol looks great with what looks like a bit of sapwood at the bottom centre... The top has some bearclaw on it, but i can live with that especially if it's an indication of better tone. Played it... and ooooooh WOW!!! This guitar absolutely sings and oozes tone!!! Overtones aplenty! and again - really easy to play - I've had a tough time putting this one down to get on with some work (and of course to write this)...

er... not sure if i can get pics as i havent got a digital camera (may be able to nab someones elses in the near future...) We'll see...

I'll post more info tonight on the 412ce-ltd / ES

Thanks for listening!
I can't wait to get home to play play and play....

WOW two great guitars. You should join in on the ovangkol thread. Since you have one now, and you can compare it to your RCE, you may be just what he needs.

I still can't get over getting TWO guitars. WOW!!!

Congratulations! That's quite an impressive buy for anyone, and I'm sure those Taylors will give you years of enjoyment!

You're making me drool for my October surprise, now...

Now where are the pictures?

WOOHOO! Pig heaven! Two deliscious new Taylors to play with! Wish I lived near someone who had "NewTaylor-itis" and couldn't put their guitars down for very long. What a great time to jam with a friend! Congratulations to you!

Default Part 2

OK... i've given the two a serious going over... ES and all!

The 414 really has wonderful sound! compared to the 412ce it's a little bit brighter even though it has a larger body. The volume more than enough without getting intrusive and the tone is just exquisite and very clear.

The 412rce-ltd is gorgeous!!! This really has to be the deal of the year - beautiful warm sound and balanced and is absolutely perfect for fingerstylee. I don't know how anyone can say the GC style can't be strummed - i've just played the heck out of it (with and without a pick) and havent managed to overdrive it yet! It is noticably quieter than the 414 but what it loses in volume it gains in great tone! Rosewood is THE tonewood to have for a GC!

I plugged the 412ce ES into my mixer which subsequently outputs to a yamaha amp (EQ set to flat) and reasonably good hifi speakers - i used the supplied cable. BTW the mixer is just a Behringer jobby.
When i 1st turned on it was all quite noisy - hmmm... so i turned down the volume on the Taylor and made up for the volume on the preamp - quiter - but now the tone sucks a bit... probably due to the mixer preamps more than anything. Right... turned down preamp level on the mixer to around +4db and cranked the volume on the Taylor - BINGO! Thats it! Great tone! - a small adjustment to the EQ on the Taylor treble to 7 and bass to 8 and increased the mid on the mixer up a notch... Ooooh yeah! Now this is is really singing!!! Its quiet when it should be and the tone is pretty close to that when unplugged.

So.... to it takes a little bit of work to dial in the right settings and get the tone - but this ES system is great!

Right... i'm off for another play!

Boy oh boy,

How can you not enjoy playing those guitars. I'd have difficulty deciding which one I'd choose to play at any one time.

How did you reach a decision on which guitars to buy. You must have played lots of guitars to get to this point. Or did you have difficulty choosing either one and bought both. Just curious.

You're right! I keep alternating between them comparing the tone and then plugging in and then just playing acoustically listening to all the fantastic nuances these guitars give off.

The 414 i bought really on recommendation - as i'm a lefty i could exactly go and try out lots of guitars anyway! But i'd heard a couple being played and plumped for the 4x series based that it was somewhere between mahogany & rosewood (which is true!) but i was somewhat unprepared for this! My old acoustic now just sounds completely dead in comparison! Then 5 months later i decided to get one with a pickup and cutaway for lead work and mainly for fingerstyle and the summer ltd's appeared - It was between the rosewood and the koa in choice, however i was told that i couldnt have a koa ltd in lefty so i ordered the rosewood!
