Question What's Next On Your Taylor List?

I am really really dreaming day and night of the day I can afford to buy my next Taylor. I would LOVE to have a 512ce or a 514ce (preferably the 512ce). Simply because the Englemann-Mahogany combination is my ideal. But it's still a distance away...a far far distance.

Would love to hear from all of you who, like me, are suffering from TAS (Taylor Acquisition Syndrome) -

1. What's next on YOUR Taylor list?
2. Why this particular model?
3. How do you plan to finance it?

I am days away from finalizing the deal on my next one. It's going to be a W14c (no e) with a few options changes.

Why this one? Well, if you go back and read everything I've posted from the beginning....no, don't do that. Anyway, I've had my 410 for about 6 years now. It's an amazing dread and I love it. About a year and half ago, though, I played a 714 ( cedar top ) that kicked my rear. I've been on the quest for my "next" guitar since then.

I played tons of guitars, read lots on tonewoods, bracing, body sizes and styles, etc. I solicited some detailed opinions from Jim "cedar top" Tozier, who had one of just about everything I had narrowed my search down to.

What am I looking for? Well, I want a guitar that responds well to fingerpicking and love the sound of cedar. So that takes care of the top. Next was deciding on the tone wood. I was lucky enough to find a store with a 714 and a 514 to do an A/B. There were things that I loved about the 714 (warmth, bass, sustain) and things that I didn't necessarily care for (complex overtones). There were things that I liked about the 514 (clean note separation, clear highs) and things I didn't care for (less sustain, less bass).

I told all this to the sales guy. He said, "Well, then there's one more you MUST play" and he came back out with a W14ce. Let's just say he was right! That's my next guitar.

Well, then comes getting the finances in order, etc. My local dealer is making me a great deal on this guitar and is being very patient with me as I work out all the fine details.

So, by the end of this week, I will have on order a W14c (no e) with either Claro or Grafted walnut (decision not yet made), cedar top, clear pickguard, black binding. *deep breath*

It has literally been a year-long project for me. I knew I didn't have the money a year ago, so I spent a lot of time doing homework. With two daughters getting ready to go through braces, driving, then college, I know this will be my last guitar purchase for a long time. I want it to be right.

You mean you actually get to take a LOAN from the bank to finance your guitar?? Unheard of in my part of the world...but if it was there, I'd take it in an instance!! Lucky guy.

I don't think I'll be getting a new Taylor anytime soon, as the ones I have have been serving me really well the past few years. I do, however, have a custom guitar on order from John Mayes of Mayes guitars. I'm super excited about it! The only downside is that I won't be getting the guitar until 2005.

I've had several Taylors. In order, they are:

1998 914C
1999 512 all-mahogany
2002 NS42CE
2003 512CE Custom all-mahogany
2002 714

I have two left, and one of those is for sale. I've ordered a 2003 914CE LTD, with several option changes (and I really do like Taylor's venetian cutaway).

That will be it for me and Taylor for a time, as I'm also in the middle of buying a few other guitars.

Worry less about the guitars you want. Play the guitar you have more.
The answer will come, and it will not be what you expect.

A guitar is a tool, and a friend. But it is not the answer.

It is the beginning.

My next Taylor-if my next guitar is indeed a Taylor- A 514 no c, no e
Why? I love mahogany guitars anf the x14 Taylors are, to me, the ideal body size and shape.
I won't finance a guitar. Never have, never will. I won't buy one until I have the cash in hand.

of course, there's this Larrivee L-o5 that I played last week that's real sweet......

1. What's next on YOUR Taylor list?

512 or 514 Mahogany top.

Probably 512, no C no E.
Although I'm very intrigued with a redwood top, but that leaves me room for more TAS later.. .. . he he he. . . .

2. Why this particular model?

Tone.

3. How do you plan to finance it?

save my money.

I LOVE the guitars I have now and play them ALL ! I sometimes hunger for a nice warm country blues mahogany guitar. I wouldn't have purchased it as my only guitar, however I think it would compliment my playing style and collection nicely . . ..

Regards,
DeadHead

It's probably going to be a 12 string. I have my eye on an NOS W65CE that makes me drool.

This thread is selling out real fast huh!! Knew I had thrown the right bait for a TAS-infested crowd. But keep sharing your dreams, so we can dream together.

I would not mind a 600 series - with a natural finish - not the amber.
That will be quite a while down the road though.

1. 654ce in cherry sunburst

2. I've always wanted a good 12-string. I've always wanted a cherry sunburst Les Paul and Taylor's maple GA's are about as close as an acoustic gets to that look.

3. Cash on the barrelhead. I refuse to add a few hundred more in interest charges to what will already be a sizeable expense. I may have to wait for awhile but anything worth having is worth waiting for.

....and I don't intend to sell any of my other guitars to finance it!
