Default What are your favorite lyrics snippets?

Not sure where to put this, so just put it in Open Mic. (Mods feel free to move if this newbie has erred).

Just wondering what your favorite snippets of lyrics are? I'll give you three of mine to get the discussion started.

Carly Simon: "I had some dreams, they were clouds in my coffee" (You're So Vain)

James Taylor: "Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground" (Fire and Rain)

I'm a sucker for a great metaphor.

And... John Denver: "Talk to God and listen to the casual reply" (Rocky Mountain High)

From my brother's song called "Waiting"

"Stuck between the place where you’ve been waiting, and where I’ve been staying
Aching for the day when all the ways are turned to one and we will
Face your face and end the fakeness end the sickness end the hatred
End the emptiness that eats away at me I’m falling I am
Waiting, I am waiting, praying, hoping this is it and I won’t
Have to hurt again and end the latest greatest thing that’s ever
Happened to me please don’t leave me stranded wondering are you coming
Are you aching for me too? I’m aching. O you know that I am."

Ok, maybe more than a snipped, but it's good. Here's a vid of him performing it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Veg-rKpTBew

I love this line from You Go to My Head, by Gillespie/Coots:

"You go to my head and you linger like a haunting refrain..."

For me it's Jackson Browne...

From Sleep's Dark and Silent Gate:
"Sometimes I lie awake at night and wonder
Where my life will lead me
Waiting to pass under Sleep's dark and silent gate"

From Sky Blue and Black:
"And I'd have fought the world for you
If I thought that you wanted me to
Or put aside what was true or untrue
If I'd known that's what you needed
What you needed me to do"

From The Only Child:
"And when you've found another soul
Who sees into your own
Take good care of each other"

From These Days:
"Don't confront me with my failures
I had not forgotten them"

And a little something from Ed Sheeran...

From "The A Team"
"The worst things in life come free to us"

Looking forward to seeing more from other folks.

Rob

John Denver ~ He was born in the summer of his twenty-seventh year, coming home to a place he's never been before.

Gordon Lightfoot ~ And she showed me her treasures of paper and tin
And then we played a game only she could win
And our fingers entwined like ribbons of light
And we came through a doorway somewhere in the night.

Michael Tomlinson ~ I loved the thrill of the wind, oh, as early as I can recall
I thought of weather as my friend
Whether sun or snow or rain, I was born to love it all.

Michael Tomlinson ~ If I run like the river runs
If I fall like water falls
Oh if I breathe like the wind
Will I ever learn it all?
If I change like autumn leaves
If I grow like summer weeds
If I'm quiet as snow
Will I ever know it all, learn it all?

Lots, I love lyrics, but here's a few.

Paul Kelly
Hard times are never over
Trouble always comes
Still I 'm looking forward
To tomorrow when it comes

Lou Reed
This room cost 2000 dollars a month , you can believe it man it's true
Somewhere a landlords laughing till he wets his pants.

Colin Hay
Don't you understand
I already have a plan
I'm waiting for my real life to begin

Bob Dylan
Strike another match, go start a new
And it's all over now Baby Blue.

Paul Simon, Duncan:
"My father was a fisherman, my mother was a fisherman's friend"

Jimmy Buffett, A Pirate Looks at Forty:
Yes I am a pirate, two hundred years too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin to plunder
Im an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late

Jackson Browne, Ready or Not:
I told her I had always lived alone
And I probably always would
And all I wanted was my freedom
And she told me that she understood
But I let her do some of my laundry
And she slipped a few meals in between
And the next thing I remember, she was all moved in
And I was buying her a washing machine

From Bruce Springsteen's The River

"And for my nineteenth birthday I got a union card and a wedding coat"

And

"Is a dream a lie if it don't come true
Or is it something worse"
