Default New Shoulder Again-Back on Guitar (a little) 6 Days Later

I had my left shoulder-replacement replaced (say that three times fast) last Wednesday afternoon, home on Friday. Doctor said I could try "very mild" playing with my left elbow resting on my thigh, and to stop if anything hurt. I was able to play basic chords and some easy picking a little higher up the neck with no pain, just some aches that happen no matter what I do, for about 15 minutes. I have a small guitar, which helps avoid a big reach down the neck. I am very happy about it, I had pretty bad nightmares of not playing at all for months. I had a lot of finger/hand numbness the first time it was replaced, but none noticable now. Just had to tell somebody who plays guitar how well recovery was going! Thanks, Mike

Sounds like you are doing things right.
I have had both of my knees replaced and major hip surgery @ a young age.
Therapy was tough as far as the knees go.
I have heard that shoulder replacement is tougher than anything.
I learned and was very determined to do as I was told as far as therapy goes and learned that ICE is your best med.
Stay on the path you are on and keep picking.

That's amazing after 6 days! You must eat nails for breakfast too. Keep at it.

What you replaced a shoulder replacement? So it means you had it replaced before but now getting another replacement? Or you just mean a shoulder replacement?....

Anyway, that's a rough operation pain and recovery wise..... all the best!

They told my 25 year-old nephew not to play guitar for at least 3 months. Be careful.

Hope things will fully return back to normal for you. I think all musicians in the world can understand how it might feel if no longer capable of playing. I've allways seen it as worse then going blind and being amputated at the same time.
Take it easy now and don't overdo it, as the road to recovery may still be long.

Good luck,

Ludwig

Take your time and don't hurt yourself.

Those old bones need time to mend...I know.
