Default Martin Serial Number Curiosity

I wish Martin was open on Saturdays! Just got the serial number from the seller of the Martin GPCPA2 Sunburst I bought off of eBay. While I'm sure everything is okay, it is a bit curious...

The serial number, 1469xxx indicates a late 2009 build, however according to the original press release, the GPCPA2 didn't start shipping until October, 2010, in limited quantities.

Given the dates and the rarity of the Sunburst GPCPA2 (especially in a burst), I'm thinking that perhaps this guitar was a Martin demo or original prototype, which is not a bad thing IMO, as long as the guitar is great. Pictures can be found here, and there is nothing that seems to indicate a forgery in the photos. I would think it very odd and unlikely for a fake Martin to have a fake Aura F1 system (unless someone went through the trouble of pulling the Aura out of an older guitar, which again seems unlikely.)

Thoughts? Is it odd that the guitar was built a year before the retail launch of the model. I'm sure they want to have a certain amount of back-stock before launch, but curious what others think.

The guitar is shipping (fairly locally) today, so I'm hoping to have it Monday.

You're expecting a delivery on New Years Day? Good luck.

Probably not that unusual. I believe the serial number is assigned when it it started, not finished. Release date may have been scheduled for well after production was underway and inventory was in stock.

Most manufacturers do this as it helps track inventory through the factory.

Oops! 1469xxx is ACTUALLY a late 2010 build! The serial number to the right of the year is the LAST number for that year, not the first. My bad. Can't wait to she comes home.
