Taylor GS Mini finish durability
The weather is a bit cold for this and will be for a while... But since the GS Mini has a varnish on the wood, is it safe from bug spray while camping?

I doubt it. Treat it like any other wood acoustic.

Not likely.

There's a general rule in chemistry that "like dissolves like." Insecticide sprays usually use an organic solvent (carbon based) as a carrier. Wood finishes and plastics are organic compounds and likely will be damaged. You should see what happened to a laptop computer of mine that was exposed to bug spray from my kids.

My Mini is my camping guitar, and luckily I live in the dry desert with not too many mosquitoes around. But if it came down to missing out on a great night outdoors, with good people and good music, only because of the bugs, I'd play mine with bug spray on. It's not like the finish performs any important function except for looks, and on my travel and camping guitar I guess I wouldn't care that much. That said, I hear there are alternatives to the finish-dissolving sprays. Do a search on this forum.

I agree with Twang...I'd just wipe it down good afterwards with some decent polish.

I would take my shirt off, spray the bug repelant on, put on a long sleve shirt and not worry about it.
