Default FS: 2005 Traugott R. German/Brazilian. UK.

I’m putting my 2005 Traugott R up on the slab. I bought it in 2008 from Dream Guitars. I was hankering after the best guitar money could buy for a couple of years and was looking for a Traugott. I thought the soundclip was phenomenal and was tipped over the edge because Tony McManus recorded it on his “Makers Mark” cd – track 13 “Sliabh Na MBan” is this guitar. Dream had 4 different Traugotts at the time and Tony chose this one to record. Being in the UK, I didn’t have the chance to play it myself but that was enough to convince me it was “a good one”, even by Traugott standards. Jeff Traugott told me it was also recorded by John Mayer while he was waiting for his own Traugott. Paul Heumiller kept it as his own guitar for a few months because “This one is so good I didn’t list it right away”.

It’s German spruce and unbelievable Brazilian rosewood. It has the “tone bar” brace that Jeff now uses on his guitars. Nut is 1¾ in. Scale is 24.9 in. The brazillian is very, very figured and cracked when Jeff was building it. He repaired the crack and sold the guitar to the first owner at a discount from his (then) 25K price; that guy sold the guitar via Dream to get through college – I am the second owner. The crack hasn’t moved in all the time I’ve had the guitar. McIntyre Feather pickup. Calton case with Traugott label.

It is extremely easy to play, very responsive indeed, and has everything that you’d expect of a Traugott. It’s got incredible trebles – very fat and warm - a magical midrange and an extremely dry, clear, bottom-end. It’s everything you could want in an OM sized guitar. Why am I selling it? Pure and simple, I have far too much tied up in this guitar and I bought it when the climate was very different. If it were cheaper, there’s no way I would consider parting with it.

I’m after 10,995 GBP, which is quite a bit less than I paid and a very big slice off a new one. Nevertheless, that’s a lot of money for a guitar and I know this is not going to sell overnight, but this is one of the very best out there. With all of the fuss around exporting BRW at the moment, I’d prefer to sell this within the UK but might be able to deliver somewhere along the Eurostar line if necessary. PM me if interested. If you’re seriously interested you’re more than welcome to come and try it.

Cheers,
Steve

Simply spectacular. Itunes had "The Maker's Mark" and I checked out the track you say this guitar was used to record and it was just beautiful.

$17,626. is a whole lot of money for a guitar and more than I could ever justify to myself on any of the many counts I would like to be able to lay claim to .... it's gotta literally hurt to part with something like that. Good Luck!

Hi Steve,

Must be tough to part with this guitar. Hope you find an appreciative buyer.
I keep thinking about selling my Sobell New World - but I haven't quite talked myself into it yet!

Thanks guys; you have some great guitars yourselves.

I've had some Stateside interest but no European love for Traugotts? I know our economy is in tatters at the moment (why I'm selling!) but surely someone this side of the Pond wants a nice Christmas present to themselves?

Cheers,
Steve

A pal pointed out to me that this appeared on GuitarBench "market watch" as a great buy for a Traugott.

Just sayin'...

Cheers,
Steve

Will the economy pick up? Over here I doubt it. Hope you find a buyer soon.
