Default NGD -- Composite Acoustics GXE

Well I ordered a CA GX carbon-burst with the Fishman pickup system a while back, from Artisan Guitars in Franklin, TN, and the wait was worth it. It has the 1-3/4" neck which I couldn't find locally (or most anywhere!) and CA doesn't really give you a good idea of their production schedule. But anyway I don't think I could be happier with it -- got it two days ago and played two gigs with it already and it's a keeper. Plays like butter, sounds great through my Fishman SoloAmp, it's responsive all the way up the neck, the action's right on the money and the Fishman system give you plenty of tonal control. Already attracted some questions, too, from audience members. The last guitar, I'm sure, I'll be buying for quite some time. Artisan Guitars was great to work with, too -- very responsive, great pricing, and they realy did an extra-mile job with packing the guitar.
Gotta go play... See ya!

Default NGD -- Composite Acoustics GXE

Awesome. Congrats. I think the GX is one of the absolute beat carbon guitars around. I'm sure you'll enjoy it for years.

Pics?

There's only one GX body size that I know of!

Maybe he's thinking of the GXi, which is thinner, I believe.

The GXi is the identical body size as the GX. The "X" body is much thinner.

The GX is considered Grand Auditorium size. The GXi is indeed the same size, with offset soundhole and integrated bracing. The X and Xi models are thinner.

I got a new GX recently. Great guitar. Congratulations on your new acquisition.

That's interesting. Oddly enough, I don't see any body-depth specs on the CA website for either the GX or the X. Loving this guitar though!

Had me confused. I was thinking "what do you mean 4 7/8 x 3 1/4?" Then I figured out you were giving the GX and X depths.

CA used to have this information on its website. However, I also couldn't find it there anywhere. A bit of searching turned up this website which does have the dimensions. I believe this is an archive of the CA website from when they closed up shop (prior to Peavey acquiring the company). It is, of course, possible that Peavey has tweaked these dimensions, but I tend to doubt it.

Just another note from a happy (pre-Peavy) GX owner.

So what's the consensus on CAs in terms of per- and post-Peavey ownership? I think I've read a whole lots of good things about both. Are there significant differences?

I have played both and I don't think there is a lot of difference. I do like the way Peavey has used paint to create what looks like binding. They just dress the guitar up I think a little more with these kinds of little embellishments. Quality control seems excellent at Peavey, certainly would not hesitate buying their product.
